COD WaW HD4870x2 corruption?

I just bought myself COD WaW. If I have 'dual video' checked in the game menu I get severe corruption whenever water is on the map or in big explosion scenes. When unchecked it seems to go away. I still have issues though. As you can see in the screen shot below I have a white dotted line along the edges of rivers/streams that flickers on and off. Is this a known issue with ATI cards?

I would suspect a driver issue....it seems to not render properly.

with my CF 4850s i only once had a small curruption of a tree and i have yet to see that again.

dual 4850 here and i get the same thing with 8.10. never bothered me enough to worry about but it would be nice to get it fixed.

i have that thing too. i have the hd4870, not x2, but i have that same thing on cod waw. never bothered me, i just thought it was suppose to be like that since my friend got the same thing.

Upgrading ati drivers is like playing russian roulette. Installing them without a very compelling reason is taking your life into your hands. I am waiting for 8.12 since they are supposed to offer better gains if you believe the early rumors. I highly doubt that 8.11 fixes this issue anyway.

i guess im luck by ur opinion because i have installed drivers starting with 8.6 hotfix and installed 8.7 8.8 8.9 8.10 and 8.11 over eachother and have no problems.

well that depends.if u delete pics of ur kids and the wife finds out then it becomes life or death situation. :p

i get same with 8.10 and 8.11 in cf with 4870's, doesnt bother me really but i would like it fixed. I see alot of reports with nvidia cards too.

I've only seen it twice since release, with 4870 X2. Originally on 8.10 now 8.11, waiting for 8.12.

Yes you do take your life into your hands updating ati drivers, at least your computer's life anyway. I just tried to update to 8.11 twice and got blue screens both times during install and afterwards during reboot which I fixed only by two system restores. Same thing happened when I tried to go to 8.9. 8.10 worked but so far 8.6 to 8.10 is the only successful driver upgrade I have had with this shit. My plan was to grab a gtx280 refresh when they came out but that doesn't look likely to happen any time soon since nvidia doesn't appear too anxious to release them. I am probably going to grab a gtx280 and then hope that the refreshes come out within my evga upgrade window. I have had about enough of ati drivers on this particular machine. Once they are on they work well but it's damn near impossible to get them on.

have you thought about how there could be other problems with ur system to cause ur BSODs?

You have something else going on with your rig. I've installed every ATI driver release since getting my 4870X2 on release day without any issues. Matter of fact, I've been installing video drivers for 17 years and I can't remember ever having a problem with ATI or nVidia.

I get the same white outline with my 4870x2 with the 8.11's.

No other issues, but I would like to see it fixed with the next driver release.

You're doing something wrong. I've been using ATI cards on and off for many many years and have done hundreds of driver updates. In fact, I don't remember the last time I didn't have an ATI card. I may not always have one in my main rig, but I always have atleast one in one of my others. Never has anything or anyone died or even went through any life threatening issues due to it.

guys, if it is showing up on both ATI an Nvidia cards as stated above then it is not likely to be a driver issue but a bug in the game. everyone is quick to blame the drivers but there are more components to a system then the graphics cards

ATI just released another hot fix for there R770 line.. google it and install the hotfix and see if this helps any. You also might want to reinstall the game. The weirdest thing about COD4 and COD WAW is if you update your graphics card while you already have the game installed you will retain the old cards performance. So in other words, if you install a new Gfx card tomorrow and you already have COD installed, then you need to uninstall it and clean your registry key out, then reinstall it to get optimum performance. I know, that sounds crazy but its happened to several people on diff forums i go to.

oh no, I hadn't thought of that.....

wow only a single post to get to your sheer genius. maybe you should be in a government think tank somewhere with such an overpowering intellect

Lol, I think that I just found the source of this "ATi driver sucks" FUD. Just click on the poster name and find all posts by Astrodave. There are at least 4-5 pages of posts from this poster with different problems with various Catalyst versions. You must be very unlucky to have all those different problems with your cards. ;)

Here is the list of the problems:
BSODs
Pauses in games
Shimmering and Flashing
Blank screen with no video
Problem with 2nd monitor

Yeah, as i said before, the only versions that have worked for me have been 8.6 and 8.10. As i also said before, all games run great in those versions of driver but warhead, which is a sad mess regardless of which driver. I'm not sure what the witch hunt is here but blaming problems on my computer is not the issue. I am an expert at computers and networks and it's not my pc. Save your retard responses if it is to bash me or my pc skills. I'm simply telling you that on this particular pc x48 chipset mainboard with crossfire, the ati drivers have been terrible. There is a huge post on rage3d and the ati forums with lots of people having the same issue. Obviously the drivers aren't bad for everyone, but for ME, which is all i care about, they are terrible. I will be going back to nvidia as soon as the gtx280 refresh is out. I love these 4850's but I can't take these driver issues any longer.

Oh and alg7_munif those issues you spoke of: all of them were related to updating the drivers and crysis warhead performance problems. Way to read a post and take things out of context. I think I'll head over to the ati forums with the other cadre of folks who are having the same problem and see if they have fixed it yet.

This coming from the person who thinks updating ATI drivers will be the cause of your death.

Because that's not retarded at all right?

You may have had issues with ATI drivers, but your insulting remarks are not needed here, especially when your posts are the most laughable ones in this thread.

jesus you guys are rich. do you really think i meant take your life into your hands? maybe you are euros who arent familiar with american slang sayings? it was meant to be facetious, as in not to be taken literally. if that's the best you have to offer then perhaps you should head back to toms hardware forums.

Yes, you are an expert but you are also the only one who is having different issues with different drivers.

Only a noobie would think that it could not be the driver especially when there are a lot of different issues involved even when different drivers are used.

sell it and buy a nvidia card. that should end your problems from what you say. and the need to troll about ATI drivers, last three ATI cards I installed BTW all worked without any issue. can't say that for the nvidia cards

um yeah i do this for a living for the Air National Guard. and by me and others having success with the drivers means that its ur hardware/software that have an incompatibility.

8.11 hotfix works for me, no corruption issues (as OP posted). Vista x64 - 1920x1080 - 4870x2+4870.
