hello all. ok first off i got an antec 1200 case and im buying a core i7 920 and a GIGABYTE EX58-EXTREME mobo. i plan to water cool everything.or water cool everything i can. I also plan to remove all the fans and close up the case with a few mods. now most or if not all vents are sealed will that cause problems with cooling other components? the reason i want to do this is because i live next to a busy highway and my house gets dust like crazy. and my fans are suckin it up into my case. I clean it once a week it gets really bad. (no my house isnt dirty. i clean it regularly) :p. anyways would this actually cause problems with my system later down the road since i wont have air flowing in it?

I would soooooo not seal a PC like that up. If you do I give u 6 months to a year before hardware failure sets in. Basically you plan to turn a high powered PC into an oven. This can be done with EE/Green machine due to the very low ammount of heat given out by them but TBH I wouldn't do it with reg PC components.

Yes. Many components in the system require some amount of airflow in order to cool them properly. You need at least some airflow in the system, otherwise the lifespan of all the components will be significantly reduced.

yea something was telling me it wouldnt work out. any suggestions as to what i can do to keep my case as dust free as possible. while keeping airflow at a decent level. i really hate the dust levels in my pc. im about to strap a handle and wheels on this thing and call it a vacuum. i do have fan filters all over this case as well. its just not cutting it for me anymore.

Filters should do the job fine. My current case has an all-mesh front panel with foam filters covering the whole surface, and I get practically no dust buildup inside the case. The only reason why filters wouldn't work for you would be if you didn't cover all of the intake fans with them.

I live in a VERY dusty environment as well (dirt road), I have filters on everything but I find myself cleaning them out once every 3-4 days (the filters are almost 100% clogged by then) and the case every 2 weeks or so, If you don't have filters, get some, they are cheap and work.

However if you don't like that idea and you still want to water cool (and you do indeed wc everything.) I would think an intake (filtered) and everything else exhaust would be enough to keep everything else cool. Reducing the amount of air flow in the case should slow the build up of dust.

its an antec 1200 all the intake fans have filters on them.even the side panel where you can stick another 120mm fan has a filter in there already. for me. filters are clearly not enough.

Heh...Yeah, those are not what I would call filters as much as boulder holders. When you live in a dusty environment a "screen" just isn't going to cut it as a "filter".

Buy a case of canned air on sale, blow the internals off every two weeks and forgetaboutit. You will save money in the end.

To lessen dust:
HEPA Filter
Better ventilation filters.
Clean your ventilation ducts.
Vacuum more.
Better filters on case.

AGAIN. i clean this place regularly. and i do clean my ducts. and im pretty sure vacuuming is tied in with me cleaning somewhere. furnace filter was just changed.

Apart from turning your room into a sealed 'clean room', maybe just design a single intake vent that you can fit an 'easy to remove and clean' filter rather than trying to worry about multiple air intakes on your PC. Then you can have as much air exhaust as you like but dust only trying to get from one location.

That's an expensive toaster you're building there. Hopefully you can salvage your hard drives with peanut butter and jam.

There has to be some way you could hook up a better air filter right to the intake of the computer. Other than that, I would probably tape off everything with masking tape that didn't need to move, so as it couldn't get in through the joints. Do you have the windows open in your computer room? Could you put a better air filter on the central air?

One fan intake, one fan exhaust is more then enough.. Thats how i run my Antec300 and my Antec lanboy. If your worried about it being really dusty, Just use exhaust fans.

I agree with Technophobe. Making the case close to sealed with filtered intakes (with no fans) and 1, maybe 2 (including the Power Supply, they tend to need a bit of air) exhaust fans would result in a fairly dust-free system.

Keep the case off the floor, it is amazing how much of a difference there is in dust accumulation between a pc sitting on the floor under a desk and one sitting on top of your desk.

If you are water cooling your cpu, nb, and gpus, you should be able to get away with setting all of your fans to their lowest speed. Either with the mother board or some fan controllers. That would reduce accumulation some.
