Blu-Ray player $139.99!!!

Yeah i saw this tonight. I kinda dont know about memorex, isnt that one of the walmart brands?

Good price for one if you want one in the immediate future. I wouldn't be surprised by next Christmas if almost all of them are under $150. Tough decision though. Will probably have to read up on some reviews.

I am going to grab a blu-ray player this holiday season, but I am going to wait for the black friday deals and the post-bf deals. I believe the panasonic bd35 and the sony s350 will both be under $200 (if not well under) for the majority of the holiday season. Various rumors have already put the s350 near $150 on black friday.

Both the bd35 and the s350 are better in spec than the current woot player; but if you can't wait then you can't wait and isn't that what woot is for?

My only problem with this player is I wonder how often it will be updated. It does say it's profile 1.1 on the blu-ray player chart and BD-Live is really unnecessary for people like my parents who just want to watch a movie. Decent deal, not smoking but like everyone I'm waiting for post BF or post Christmas to get one of the higher rated players.

Seems like a good deal. I was about to order one, but I can't find any reviews. I don't really want it anyways.

What does lacking BD profile 2.0 leave you without?

Essentially the only difference between profiles 1.1 and 2.0 means is net connectivity. BD-Live is unnecessary for basic movie presentation. I'd always research players for ability to update firmware though (obviously).

I heard that there's no way to update the firmware.

Kinda sucks since they keep updating blu-pay.

I picked one up. cant beat 139 right now, and who cares about profile 2.0. Im personally not a extra features person.

Already have 2 ps3s and needed 1 more BD player for the LCD in the formal living room, so this will work nicely.

Yeah, like I said it's great for the person who just wants to watch and who doesn't care about extra content but my major concern with this unit is firmware updates. And if it's a rebranded Funai good luck, their stand alone DVD Recorders were horrible.

From what i'm reading Funai is a Japanese company with manufacturing facilities in China. They've made hundreds of products to date, top and bottom shelf products, both for high-end and no-name brands.

A buggy DVD recorder in the past doesn't really apply here. Personally i'd rather let the end-user determine if this product is decent, a gem in the rough, or just a piece of junk ;)

There seems to be a decent amount of info on Funai re-brands so all it takes is some searching.

I feel sorry for the people who paid $1,000+++ for this lol

Same reason I got mine. A "good" upconverting DVD player is about $79 ($49 on Black Friday). So why not pay the extra $60 for the Blu-Ray feature?

You and me both. I might go $75 for a good brand, but probably not.

Probably going to be a good while for that. I wouldn't expect them (name brand models) to reach sub $99 levels until at least next ('09) Black Friday. Name brands still hover around $240.

It has a USB port, so you'd update it with a memory stick.

This player has analog 5.1 out, which is something the BD35 and Sony S350 don't have. I don't know which formats it'll decode internally though.

I've converted to the XB360 streaming/HTPC religion. I really don't even care about stand-alone players anymore. Rip (, convert if necessary) and watch.

Wouldnt it be nice if it could decode Dolby True HD? :D
I personally prefer a PC drive but I will take either over degraded rips. ;)

Via HDTVLounge...

...On the audio side of things, there is audio decoding from Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, & DTS-HD High Resolution and bit stream output, and Master Audio bit stream output. The Memorex MVBD-2510 also features 7.1 HDMI digital audio output and 5.1 analog audio output....

Hm. Too bad it doesn't support divx/xvid in the library function. It has hardware mpeg4 decoding....
