Now, this is a cool data center. In Stockholm, Sweden, a new high-security data center was recently opened by Bahnhof in a converted underground nuclear bunker. Follow the jump for pics and crazy facts about the place. I think my favorite is that it can “withstand a near hit from a hydrogen bomb.” How many other data centers can claim that?

“Since we got hold of this unique nuclear bunker in central Stockholm deep below the rock, we just couldn’t build it like a traditional – more boring – hosting center,” [John Karlung, CEO at Bahnhof] said. “We wanted to make something different.

I guess the mist is to cover up all the trash on the floor? :)

Cool and corny photo shoot.

The catch for surviving a nuke is that all connections to the outside world (doors, power, fiber conduits) needs to be sealed. If any are open EMP will fry everything inside.

Somehow I doubt they choose the location because they are afraid of nukes. Pretty cool place though. I'd like to have a place like that with a sub woofer that could shake literally the mountain ^^

pretty slick, nice idea and good usage for it, like those people that turn them into homes :d

ya the fog is kinda ghey!! your not in space guys, it looks nice, it is nice on the eyes at least. wonder what kind of servers they are...

Reminds me of the Enclave stronghold in Fallout 3.

Then again, it also reminds me of Little Lamplight because of the lighting.

I'd sorry it could possibly a pretty damn boring job just monitoring servers and being some companies bitch connecting cables or writing which hard drive died. There is a data center at work and we have some monitoring stations down there as well. We don't put in new production systems in there that often.

By selling the space they are busy during installation but after that things chug away without issue for quite some time with our own data center.

who's the chick in the skirt :D looks like a fun place to work.. screw sunlight! if batman can work in a cave, so can we!

List of things that every billionaire should have:

1) Big House [check]
2) Exotic Cars [check]
3) Supermodel Spouse [check]
4) Underground Nuclear bunker full of my own employees [check]

bastards

That's pretty awesome, and for a damned monotonus job, great atmosphere.... Why can't we have shit like that here? I get to listen to a stack of servers, yay....

Obviously my ability to spell, is why I can't work in a cool place :(

There are a couple data centers here in the US already built in nuclear bunkers. Some are retrofit and others are brand new installs.

Yep. While its great for a sales pitch, it does hardly anything for you when your loop services are exposed and is inaccessible by personnel. It also doesn't help if your personnel inside doesn't have months of food and medical supplies.

And some friggin sharks with some friggin lasers! :D

Now when we nuke all life off the planet, aliens can show up and fire up the servers... just imagine what conclusions they will draw from the content of the servers!

If you guys think that's cool, you should see above/below the control room of a nuke plant. :p (well, minus the cave looking walls and fog, lol)

OMG that is so awesome ... but I do have a question before i'll take it...

Where the heck is the BATHROOM - there isn't one on the map lol
