Core i7 exprience

Hey Guys, later today I will post up more stuff. Right now I am keeping it at 3ghz (20x150) as I only need 1.3 volts right now (I might try lowering it a tad more as I know it has room). This chip does seem to have room to move up, but the heat that this chip produces is insane on the stock heatsink.

My I ask, how much did you end up spending on this build? (Sorry if you posted it earlier)

off topic: sweet I am no longer a limp gawd! i'm just a gawd now

The chip was $200 (Got a deal)
The Board was $300
Ram was $300
Additonal Vid Card: $300 (After 100 dollar cashback)

so it was $1100 then take off $500 for the other older stuff I sold off, so a $600 upgrade.

Where did you buy your parts from? I'm thinking about getting new parts as well.

Update:

Found out what was holding me back and that was the ram speed, I knocked it down and now have it running at 3.4ghz with 1.2875 volts. Heat is still an issue though so just a heads up guys.

You tried playing with the uncore voltage? 1362Mhz on the ram shouldnt be that big of a deal.

AthlonXP, I hate you the best.

For everybody itching to get this stuff, I noticed yesterday that TankGuys has the i7 920 and the ASUS P6T Deluxe in stock :http://www.tankguys.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=i7&x=24&y=7

His stuff is expensive, but its the only place I've seen the ASUS P6T. He even has a Gigabyte X58 board.
I think Provantage has a few P6Ts as well.

I hade it set to 1600, this gskill is supposed to work at 1600. Sorry for the delay on the pics I am finishing up laundry and I just setup my new 3007wfp-hc monitor.

You are really rubbing it in..............

Anybody know if Swiftech has said anything about waterblocks for the i7s yet.
Once I see those for sale I'm jumping in............

I'm thinking Gigabyte X58, the 920, 6GB of some Corsair and SLI'd 280s for starters.......then I'm definately going back to triple SLI!!!!!

I'll be ordering parts on the 19th, as soon as my CC rolls over to the next billying cycle. I'll start out with stock air and upgrade to h2o as soon as as a good block is available.

(I'm only waiting becuase if I put them all on this months bill I'd end up carrying a balance for the 1st time in 3+ years.)

These X58 boards are VERY PICKY about memory at high speeds. I would not expect any "1600" memory to work unless told otherwise.

Release date of TRUE 1366?

And pix if your system please :).

Another side question, can 1333 rams handle 920 at 3.8 or maybe more? Corsair is in my mind atm.

I'm going to let the dust settle on this stuff for a while.

I have a nice watercooled case set up and I don't want to screw with that right now.

I think this winter after the shine wears off this stuff, and Swiftech or DangerDen has a 1366 block, I'll get my feet wet.

Congrats to all you early birds. I'm going to put a few more miles on my Quad 6600.:p......and buy another GTX 280!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up on the bolt through kits. I just ordered mine for my Ultima90.

No problemo, hopefully mine is one of the ones that is shipping out today. I ordered it from them on the 7th of this month.

You're killing me though............where are the pix of the setup? I promise I'll stop hounding you if you just post them!!! ;)

Wondering how the GTX280 SLI worked out?? I've got some money burning a hole in my pocket right now to buy another GTX280 but I'm not fully convinced it's worth it yet. Any motivation from AthlonXP would be helpful in making the decision. :)

Simply because I don't have the money for one...... YOU SUCK...

Nice box, can't wait to see that thing really tuned up and not on beta drivers.

Well I was playing wow last night with everythign jacked up on my new 30 inch and it looked "fan freaking tastic"!

What's the effect of Hyperthreading on the heat production? Do you get lower temps with it off?

:D Uh Oh! Are you motivating me to buy a 30" display?

You know at first I thought text on 30 inches were way to small for me, I just adjusted the dpi to help compensate and overall I love it. I had been using a 32 inch 1080p LCD TV, but the tv being so huge compared to my workstation at work (3x19inch LCD's).

Actually, I just bought the Samsung 275Tplus a month ago so not likely I'll change it now. Although reading your posts makes me wish I went bigger. Anyhow, I'm watching your I7 experience since ther is no doubt that's next on the purchase list and it looks like I'll pick up that 280 to add to the fun. Probably for me, I'll go ith the R2E board instead of the P6T but, that's me.
thanks for the info :)

Anytime, the big advantage for that board is the sound and it can do tri-sli.

...Just ordered mine from these guys - should be here in a couple of days :D

Had to get my Corsair from Newegg.

...Finally, looks like I will be able to start putting everything together. My case and power supply arrived from FrozenCPU yesterday. I must say, Lian Li makes the absolute nicest cases I have ever seen.

Which Lian Li case did you get??

PC - A71A Silver. Already sleeved the internals, as well as did the sound dampening thing - w/ 6 120mm + Corsair HX1000, I suspect it's going to kinda loud - LOL.

Honestly its not super loud with the stock heatsink and to be honest I am pretty happy with 3.4 ghz. I know I can get more out of it, but I don't like going over 1.3volts.

Yeah, probably so, but this is the first personal rig I have built in a while, so I'm kinda "taking the extra time" and babying everything. I doubt I will OC anything to begin with, but as time goes on, knowing me, I will just have to start tinkering with things...

EDIT: Plus I had the foam + cable sleeves left over and on hand. Installed WotLK, and then got queued for 70 mins - the woman had her nose buried in a Law Book, so TV was out of the question. And off I went.
