Newegg Shell Shocker 11/04/08 - OCZ Fatal1ty PC6400 4GB (2x2GB) $39.99 FS

Yup, Newegg made that change a couple of weeks back. Now certain 'free shipping' items are shipped via DHL if Newegg deems it cost effective. Newegg seems oblivious to the fact that DHL is on the fast track to self-destruction. DHL's business is rapidly spiraling down the drain and they have recently started the annoying practice of routinely handing parcels over to the USPS for end delivery. Not only does it add another step to an already needlessly complicated shipping process, but it's yet another point where your package can just 'vanish'.

Fear not... DHL is shutting down their domestic shipping.

Egg saver was the free shipping on these sticks. Egg saver is 3-7. Always has been. Im lost on what you think your entitled to ?

I beg to differ... All the past Shellshocker or deals I've gotten from newegg as well as standard purchases have always been 3-day guarantee. Like I said, I've never seen that before. Here's a screenshot of the OCZ PSU that I got as a shellshocker a few months back as an example. I could go through every invoice & they all state the same thing. They must have changed their policy in an effort to save money. It's been frowned upon everytime they have made the decision to do something like this.

Oh yeah, it's Veteran's Day, so I'm certainly not getting the RAM today :(

{Edit} I never asked for an entitlement either. I was simply pointing out a change in their policies & one that will bite them in the rear!

3 day shipping is different than egg saver ( 3-7) and always has been. In which Egg saver is for small items that can be delivered via USPS

[screaming]
THEN WHY ON EARTH DO THEY STILL USE DHL???? [/screaming]

And by the way, I understand what egg saver is. It has only just recently appeared as one of the shipping options & probably for the reasons of people looking for cheaper rates to ship things like cables & the likes where UPS becomes cost-prohibitive.

Because for most people it would arrive faster than just having egg using USPS. if DHL brings it within 1-2 range and drops it off w/ USPS and it gets there on 4th day. Isnt that better than 5 days for USPS. Most people who order things dont live close to the shipping warehouse, crazy i know, therefore DHL is faster to get it longer distances.

Mine is still AWOL... apparently DHL and USPS can't find Fargo, ND (don't blame them...)

Interesting... tracking service stated that mine got "MISSENT" on the day it should have arrived. Apparently DHL delivered it to the wrong USPS distribution center?? It did arrive a few days later (yesterday).

Got mine as well, but as usual I'm pissed off at how it was packed and shipped from Newegg.

No box, both of my sets of RAM were stuffed into a single large yellow envelope that could barely meet the definition of the term 'padded'. Then of course it was shipped using Newegg's new policy of using DHL who in turn usually hands it off to the US Post Office as DHL's business slowly spirals into hell.

Looks like the RAM made it OK but I haven't had time to test it yet.

Mine came shipped the same way to the office. Sent in the rebate instantly so as to not forget, but when I got home... DOH! one stick is bad. Hoping OCZ will treat me right on the RMA. Even if they don't $20 after rebate for a 2gb stick isn't all that bad (and it says Fatal1ty :) )

DOH! one stick is bad.

Before you get too far, I've been reading A LOT of reviews stating that they are very finicky RAM. A lot of peeps RMA'd sticks only to find that the replacements tested bad, too.

Turns out a large number of motherboards won't support this RAM... or will support one stick, but not two.
It would also seem that playing with the timings and voltage is almost a necessity to get these to work reliably.

Slipped into my Gigabyte ep45-ds3r, bumped volt to 2.1 ( whats required) and works fine.

Mine is doing the same, all fugged up, I can't get one of them to work period, I am still playing with the timing more, but its really getting pretty sad here.... I should have waited for the nice corsair that just came up to being on sale yesterday..... *shoots self in foot for more enjoyment than playing with this shitty ram*

Yeah, rather than go through the BS of RMA'ing it, I think I am just going to wait for my new motherboard and new (old) cpu to arrive and test it there first. My main PC has 2x1gb OCZ Platinum and 2x1gb OCZ Gold in it. The one stick worked fine (even w/ a total of 5gb in there). That one stick just would not boot in any combination (even solo).

I'll toss it in the new one and play around. If I can't get it to work, I may just offer it up for $5 or so here to someone who wants to play with it. As stated, $20 after rebate for a 2gb stick is still not bad :) .

play carefully, I couldn't get one of mine to do shit (like NOTHING, just bad beeps) then with enough love (Some rather tough and I was pulling sticks in and out all afternoon) she started to say hi, then a little more love and she was booting like a champ..
Now I am at 400 Mhz 5-4-4-13, I had to force these settings and I had to force 2.1 V on it (set up w/ other old ram) then i could finally get it working...
I do know those are some pretty BS timings though (correct? I havn't looking into timing memory in one HELL of a long ass time...)

anyways, moral, this is shitty ram that you need to rub JUST the right way before it works...

My set booted up fine first try, I did have to manually set timings though, they auto detected at 6-6-6-18. As with most computer gear there will always be duds.

Actually those timings are better than most ram in the pricerange which is usually 5-5-5-18 or 5-5-5-15.

Also according to the specs you should be running them at 5-4-4-18 and not 5-4-4-13, but hell if they are running good for you at those timings go for it. :)

Thanks for the advice. When my AM2+ setup arrives, I will mess with voltage and get it going.

Very happy with this deal still.

FYI my rebate came in the mail a couple days ago:)

Now I'm wishing I'd bought 8gb worth... wonder if SLI-Ready pct-6400 (5-4-4-15 and 2.1v) would play nicely with my 2 sticks of fatal1ty (5-4-4-18 and 2.1v) on my p5k-deluxe???
