ASUS P6T RAM and OCing Follow-up

Wow Great video! If I didn't see it I would never believe you could populate all those Dimms and overclock them! Sure makes me want to upgrade but lets see $1000.00 for 965EE, $300.00 motherboard, $500.00 ram, $1800 to increase fps in games and bragging rights? Priceless!! Thanks Kyle

Ill wait until about march next year to upgrade to an X58. Im happy with what I got for now

It's nice to see how easy the i7 920 is to OC. All the reviews before that were scaring me! I'm sorry but $295 is as much as I'm going to pay for a chip.

Has anyone seen whether the different memory dividers effect performance? (Like with Core based chips, 1:1 was what you were shooting for.) What does Nehalem prefer?

I wonder how many more asus boards and 920's are going to be sold??

What is that CD labelled PS under the CRT monitor? Pirated Photoshop disc? ;)

Just wanted to say how much I've been enjoying the [H]OCP videos on the front page done by Kyle. Cutting edge hardware captured on video, along with all the settings required to get things up and running quickly (literally) and stably always makes for compelling viewing. Keep up the great work, Kyle and the rest of the [H]OCP team.:)

Man I can't wait to upgrade my system, thanks for the awesome review Kyle.

How much of an OC have you found stable on air cooling? Some sites are saying 3.8ghz is solid, some even claim 4.0ghz might be possible on air.

Must resist....... Make Q6600 last longer...... argggggg..... don't give in...

Sweet review.... but.. I want numbers.. numbers.... must.. have.. numbers

Really! I wanna see a Sandra and/or Everest score on CPU and RAM throughput as well as RAM latency scores... core to core latency would be very nice to know as well.

Seems like Intel got the memory controller right... Bout time.. only took them a few years to catch up with AMD in that respect.

Nice review. Would like to know what kind of temps that thing was running on the CPU though. I'm kinda surprised you glanced over that detail. Its a small one, but important. Really need to make sure you include the 5 seconds necessary to relay that info in the future!

Otherwise, is there any benefit to a 965 over a 920? From what I can tell its only an unlocked multiplier, quick path speed increase from 4800 MT/s to 6400 MT/s, and a different memory controller rating from 1066 on the 920/940 to 1333 on the 965.

I have yet to see anyone point out any kind of performance related difference between these options.

Are we to assume that on systems with all the same specs, a 920 overclocked to 3.2ghz will be completely identical in terms of performance with a 965 running at 3.2ghz?

I like the video format. Another awesome choice of opening music.

Oh, Kyle looks dead on like my wife's uncle (well, about 10 years ago).

Awesome video review! That memory (qty, speed, performance) is insane.

Now, got the video version of your BP6 review squirreled away somewhere?

Watching that video made me realize how much I miss seeing stuff like that on T.V. I guess the web is the real future for stuff like this. I'd like to see more videos in the future whether they are on the web or T.V. It's a shame that with all the television channels there are in the world there doesn't seem to be any that are willing to have at least a weekly show if not daily devoted to this kind of stuff. Too bad G4 can't get their heads out of their ass.

very sexy hardware. now if I could just justify needing 12Gb of ram, 8 "cores", etc... over what I already have.

LOL!!!!!

Kyle you like reach arounds?

Shhhhh.

I am going to try to put a follow up together today that will answer the questions posted in this thread as well. Obviously some stuff that I could be more clear on in the BIOS settings. Should have started from default and walked through.

Pro tip: You only need to press del once, tapping it is useless :)
And then you get those stubborn boards that dont go into the bios when you press it once.
And the time it takes to hit reset or hold power gives windows enough time to start loading, and then windows bitches about not finishing startup.

Tapping works. ;)

You only need to tap it once if you tap it at precisely the correct time. Even tested it this morning. Tapping is more efficient for me to make sure I do not miss my window as I am usually thinking about other things besides tapping at the appropriate moment.

Kyle, I use to have long hair too...then I was working on a computer and my hair got in the PSU and I got electrocuted (longer story than it sounds) :D

That must of been a hair raising experience :p

Ok, I'll sit quietly int he corner now :(

Amen brother, hate what they did to TechTv. You can still watch Pat on Revision3.com
his latest. LINK

Pat kicks ass...even though I think they keep him reeled into a bit more mainstream stuff too often.

this mobo is awesome.

under 400CDN at launch is a steal for 6up 12GB.

just wow. i've really gotta be careful i don't get too anxious and do something that will make me poor for christmas...

Another kick ass review by [H] and Kyle! Like the new personal touch on the video reviews. Nice touch on the close up zoom feature on the screenshots of bios. All you need now are some video booth babes to tease all the [H] readers..LOL Maybe you can do some real time benchmarking videos showing us readers the true power of the i7 system?

Maybe Kyle could get that hologram thing from the election and put that in the videos.

I thought the video was awesome, I'm really liking these video reviews and I hope you guys keep it up.

Literally the ONLY thing that dissapointed me about the video was that you cut away when you were rebooting the machine and I didn't get to see how fast Vista booted. :D

Heh... a little off topic (okay a lot), but what prompted you to choose the name Blue Falcon? I hope it's not reputation.
