Hey guys well i finally got the cash to order the last piece for my new system and boy i'm happier than a hobo in a liquor store. I had my heart set on the gigabyte hd4850, mainly for the aftermarket cooler it comes with and i heard some good stuff about it. I know you can tweak the fan speed with the new catalyst driver so that should allow me for lower temps, i really don't mind too much noise. But i just saw this beauty on newegg asus hd4850 top and it's actually 5dlls cheaper and comes with a factory oc. I mean there's that one review about it running too hot, but i know you can't believe everything you see on newegg reviews. I haven't been able to find a single review for it, i googled it already. Now the asus card also comes with an an after market cooler and now i just can't decide! I know they are both great brands so that's not helping me much either. Should I just flip a coin?

if you care about the rebate i would go with Asus. Cuz then its 30 bucks cheaper. If you do not care about the rebate, I think that Gigabyte is using a custom PCB on their 4850 and may help overclocking.

+10 on ASUS for 30$ rebate so 35$ save is big, and it's even clocked higher then the gigabyte ( not that it really matters but less work ^ ^)

only thing in gigabytes favor is the card is blue instead of red but the pink box kills that. j/k

got a great point there, and with 4x 120mm fans in the case plus the tuniq 120 tower i don't think heat will be much or a problem. You know it's scientifically proven that red cars are faster, i wonder if that applies to cards. I wonder if red cards are faster, hmm we should do a test on that!!

lol i didn't get that...cause it's 5am and i haven't slept since yesterday afternoon. But i guess im going with asus, anybody got an argument why i shouldn't?

Thats fine and all but why did you narrow it down to these two to begin with? Their are cheaper models and at the end of the 4850's are all pretty the same

well i don't know i guess the fact they have another cooler made them more attractive. My reasoning being that if i bought a stock card and wanted to add something a little better i would have to pay extra, and these cards already come with something a bit better than the stock cooler.

Now quick question, i got an antec300 with 5x 120mms total on the case, would the cooler these cards have make any difference? would i be getting close to similar temps on these cards as compared to a single slot card with a stock cooler because of the cooling i got on the case?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....

i just checked the egg and both cards are now 180 which is too much for my poor mexican ass :( WHY MUST THEY TORTURE ME LIKE THIS!! AFTER A MONTH OF HAVING THE FREAKING GIGABYTE CARD A 170 the day i have the money to buy it they jack up the price. WHY DO YOU HATE ME GOD!! AM I SUCH A BASTARD?

WHOA! That's seriously messed up. I just went to newegg to search the 4850 and in the search results they had the Asus TOP model listed at $164 + 30 rebate. When you click on it, the product page that comes up says $179 + 30 rebate.

You might call them and see what the REAL price is. One would thing they would get all their pricing info from the same database but it seems there's an error on their site maybe.

hey yeah your right! 2 hours ago on the search page the 4850 top was listing at 179 but now it's back to 164.99 but once on the cart it shows up as 179 oh why does newegg punish me like this?

Call them. Simple as that. They'll probably honor the $164.99 price since it's listed as such.
