Are there any cards other than the 4850 and 4870 that will output 8 channel uncompressed audio over HDMI? Looking for something low power if possible. No gaming, just movies, so audio capabilities are more important than video (as long as it will do 1080).

If you like ATI, look at a 4550. Nvida just announced a series that will do 8 channels of LPCM too.

I think the 4600 series of cards by ATI provide both 7.1 and low power consumption at a cheap cost as well. I'm still relativiely new to the HTPC world so I have a hard time figureing out if its "uncompressed" but my gut tells me yes.

According to AVSforums, the Intel G45 (integrated video) is supposed to provide 8 channel LPCM via HDMI as well.

I ordered the ASUS P5Q-EM to give it a shot. Apparenly the G45 has no issues with accelerating dvd/blu-ray playback and sound via HDMI. I figured if it doesn't work as well as my 4850 (would rather put that in another machine) then I'll use it in the bedroom's media PC.

I guess you haven't heard about the recent BIOS issues Intel's boards have had concerning hardware acceleration. It's borked.

nope sure didn't. have a link? I haven't even installed the board yet so I can always trade it in for the nvidia based board.
