Streaming Media to 360 Problem

I recently downloaded a couple codecs and programs to try and stream h.264 and mkv files to the 360. With no luck I said screw it and when I tried to play normal content, the 360 would say the connection to the computer was lost. I would then receive an error on my pc stating that windows media sharing has encountered a problem and needs to close. If I wait a couple seconds and close the error, the 360 will eventually play the media. After Im done viewing the video, it will do it again. I uninstalled all the codecs I have + the new ones, upgraded to XP SP3, reinstalled WMP, and the problem still persists. Any ideas? Thanks

At my house, my 360 does something very similar. I can be in the middle of playing a vid file and it crashes with that connectin lost. Sometimes i restart the 360 and its fine. I believe its just sorta buggy.

I had problems recently with the new PlayOn software, would exhibit similar behaviors. Granted its still in beta...

FFD Show, Haali Media Splitter, New DivX Codec, Bunch of DVD burning software, AAC3 (sp?) or something filter.

I am using TVersity for my streaming and it works fine.

+1 TVersity will also transcode the files for you into a usable format for your 360.

You may also want to look into Winamp Remote/Orb for streaming. I've had a lot of good luck with both programs but TVersity is a little bit better these days.

+2 for Tversity

Ive been using it even before 360 did dvix/xvid native. Well over a year and a half, have never really had any issues in the past year, older versions had some bugs but the newest ones are awesome. Give it a go. You wont regret it!

These are codecs and splitters, but what are you using to actually transcode the content? All of that software guarantees that you can play those files on your computer, but you'll need a transcoder application (such as TVersity) to be able to serve up information that the Xbox 360 can actually read.

Oh, and uninstall DivX and install XviD instead (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm). Less bloatware that way. The old DivX 3 format isn't supported with XviD, but you can enable it in FFDshow, so you're good.

I use WMP to stream to my 360. I tried TVersity in the past and cant get my xbox to recognize it/have it show up under source.

Uh... Windows Media Player doesn't transcode content. Hence your problem. Xbox 360 simply doesn't support the file types you mentioned, which is why it's not working. Xbox 360 has flat-out no support for the matroska container (.mkv).

What you need is a program to transcode your media to a format that the 360 can understand (such as wmv). WMP can't do this.

It's like this: there is guy A and guy B. Guy A is reading a document to guy B, and guy B is supposed to write down everything guy A says. Guy A looks at the document, and realizes it is in Spanish. So guy A goes out and learns Spanish. However, there's still a problem - guy B doesn't know Spanish. So guy A can be talking to him the entire time, but guy B still won't have any idea what to write down.

Your PC is guy A. Your 360 is guy B.

I said Im trying to play normal content (avi, xvid, divx etc) and this is happening only after I installed all that shit to play mkv and h264 files.
