I just played couple rounds of Resistance 2 beta (Thanks playrh8r for the key), now I am actually thinking about canceling the preorder of my Resistance 2 LE:rolleyes:.

First I thought the graphic is meh only because the videos on Gametrailers were badly captured. But after seeing the game in real time, I have to say it looked worse than any of the games I own (including Gundam Dynasty Worrier). Gameplay wise, the overhyped 60 ppl match I can't find myself seeing more people than CoD4 at one time on a mostly full server. Animation looks weird, I find few guns are significantly more powerful than others. Comparing this game with CoD4 and Halo 3, it is inferior in almost everyway. Am I missing something or this game is just not for me?

I also thought the Beta was very underwhelming. I really think they needed to include a single player mission to show that off instead of only sticking people on 60 player maps which is fairly chaotic and not terribly fun when you do not know whats going on.

With something like CoD4 I could jump right in and it was fairly instant gratification. Find the grenads, how to switch weapons, learn the map for a few minutes and you are immediately effective. I didn't get that with R2 Beta, I just felt like I was running around, pretty meh.

I find it dumb to rate any game off a small beta portion they give people to try out.

Problem is they released it and at that moment they determined what people would see to make a judgment on. Its what they chose to be a representation of their finished product. A ton of people downloaded it excited to shoot people and do co-op, and what they put out just fails to impress.

I am pretty sure the full copy is just more of the same, at least for the multiplayer is what Ill be playing after finishing the singleplayer for one time. After some more beta I played, I really can't get into it. The guns are fun but only 8? come on. It gets old really quick, the berserk mode tries to copy CoD reward kill streak system, but it doesn't deliver the same gratification.

I find R2 trying to be both CoD4 and Halo 3, but failed.

it only seems average to me, and i thought it was supposed to be great graphically, i guess they toned down multiplayer...

also, when you run through water it does nothing, but when you shoot it, you see great looking ripples...whats up with that

Don't expect multiplayer to change a whole lot from what you experienced in the beta - for better or worse it's what you can expect in the final retail version. I can also verify that the graphics are much better in the single player experience, they aren't going to blow your mind but they are a large step up from the original game and also a step up from what you experience in multiplayer.

There's a good bit of fun to be had and the campaign is over faster than you'd want but all and all it's a fun experience...imo the game could have used some more time in the oven, it also seems to be difficult for insomniac to get over the cartoony type games it's used to making and it shows in some of the art design choices in R2. I will say congratulations on bringing boss battles back and doing it right.

I thought the co-op online was a lot of fun in the beta. It will get stale quickly once everyone figures out how to take out the enemies that are in the same spot every time. If the maps randomly generated enemies and turret placements it would be a lot more interesting in the long run.

While normally I'd agree - the "beta" came out 2 weeks before the final and won't end until 5 days prior to the final version. The graphics and core gameplay from that beta are what you're going to get in the final as there's no way they'd have time to change anything. The beta was designed to likely test some server thresholds and maybe inspire some last second balance tweaks that could be implimented by a patch.

There is Boss battles? HUGE plus in my book. I wish more games would include this.

I tend to agree with the Gametrailer Bonus Round guys, that while Resistance is a fun game (I will be buying it), it lacks an identity.

I have never been a fan of large scale online battle. 60 players is just obsessive and actually takes away from the fun of online gaming in many areas. Smaller maps and 30 players max allows for better teamplay and fast pace action.

When they released SOCOM Beta it was also 3-4 weeks before the game released and people thought it looked like crap and they wouldn't get it because of that. Than some nice little fact came out, developers for the purpose of BETA put out older code of the game (graphics included in that older code) to stress the servers. Same thing is possibly happening with R2 BETA...

IGN gave the game 9.5 in their review.

I'll hope you're right. I enjoyed the first game a lot and even completed it twice to get the extra weapons. This beta was a dog, though. I guess we'll know in a week! :)

I never saw the hype for resistance. It's just a reskinned version of every tired fps trope and cliche. I hated the fuck out of halo 3 though too, so maybe I just can't stand the genre anymore.

Are the graphics different in the game? No. Are the weapons you actually get to see in the beta, that are unsatisfactory already going to get some kind of magic final release upgrades? No.

People always say things like this about betas. They're always wrong. I played the halo3 beta and it sucked just as much ass as the final version, despite people saying "it's just a small beta, everything will turn into unicorns and sunshine when the final is released!"

yes there are boss battles (several) and they are all a lot of fun and well designed. don't take my criticisms to harshly, I did enjoy the campaign very much and I love insomniacs games, I just feel like given enough development time they could really put out something amazing as opposed to this switching from Resistance to Ratchet every year.

voice acting is top notch, the story is well done and interesting (of course with a cliff hanger at the end) and for the most part the graphics are very well done if not lacking some of the technology you expect from current PS3 games (self shadowing for one)

don't let my comments sway you from purchasing the game, it's well worth the $60.00 admission.

I thought Resistance 1 was a hugely overrated POS, so this game isn't even on my radar. Honestly I think if Resistance 1 came out just a year after the PS3 launch instead of at the same time, it would've gotten 6.5s / 7s from everybody. But it was the first shooter on PS3 so everybody was like, "OMG look at the graphiczzz!" Which were not that great anyway, and brought down considerably by terrible animations.

I played the first Resistance, I think it's mediocre, just a everyday run and gun shooter. Story meh, depth meh, character below meh. Online didn't work for my PS3 due to region code, so I can't comment on that.

But Resistance two I was expecting much much more, the beta's graphic looks like Halo for PC; the core multiplayer gameplay is go to one place and kill everyone there until time runs out then to a new place and repeat, which gets tedious really quick.

For a highly rated game I expected more.

I liked the first Resistance. I didn't really play it solo though. Me and a buddy played through it a few times co-op, so this is looking sweet for us and online co-op :)

I played a good bit more of this last night and I think the main problem is that nothing really has a good visceral feel of killing to it. Going back to CoD4, without even knowing all the weapons and perks, you know when you just lit someone up. I am just not getting the same feeling in R2, however after a while it did start to feel more natural but always a bit awkward. The jumping grenade (whatever its called) is a good example of this. Stopping power of the weapons does not seem to go along with the visual and audio effects for multilayer. It feels almost too thought out.

So am I the only one here who actually had fun playing the Beta? I liked the way it felt and I also liked the way you were able to play the Co-Op. I personally will be buying this game for the single player and Co-Op modes I hate PvP and find that the 60 player option will not be used by me even once. I do wish that the games would get a much longer single player campaign, but with development cost these days I guess you will never see that again.

I had fun playing the beta, sure it wasn't anything earth shattering, but so much going on at the same time...

Didn't get a chance to get on the Beta. Was the frame rate chugging while playing the huge 60 player battles?

I didnt play any 60 player matches, but on 8 player co-op with 50-60 enemies on screen, I did not notice any slow downs.
