Help me, fallout 3.

I bought the elder scrolls oblivion a while ago and could not get the game to go past the start up movie, it would immediately crash, i tried just about everything. Today I bought fallout 3...same exact problem. Must use the same engine. Anyways does anyone have any ideas about what the problem could be?

Edit: Browsing the web, looking at peoples problems with this and oblivion, no one seems to have encountered a fix yet, guess I'll be doing a fresh install of vista tomorrow, but please keep the ideas coming because id rather not have to do that.

-Replaced the wsock32.dll with a new one.
-Ran as admin
-Renamed intro movie
-Default codecs installed, SUCCESS

does the sound keep working? I had an issue w/ crysis that would black screen, sound would keep going, and eventually you'd see the "specialised" crysis cursor on the black screen. an alt+enter would put it into windowed mode, then i'd be able to full screen it. never figured that one out either, though i didn't dig to far. :D

c/n: if sound keeps going, try to let it finish then alt+enter
 
I had a problem like this in oblivion once, what I did was delete the oblivion.ini file (My docs\my games\oblivion), and Fallout 3 does use the same engine so I'm sure there is an ini file like that one you could delete. Once you delete it the game will recreate it at launch.
 
For future reference, read the bottom of my signature and stick to it....Vista "will be" good, just give it another year or 2, then install it. :)
 
I had it crash on the first time I ran it but after that it's been smooth sailing.
