The dreaded Far Cry 2 black screen.

I see all the logos on startup. Then I hit enter on the Far Cry title and the display goes to black. I still hear the African music though.

I did check "disable visual themes" on my desktop shortcut as someone suggested. No luck.

Win XP Pro
Q6600
HD4870 (downloaded the most current ATI drivers today)

I did see one strange thing on install that I can't remember anymore. Something about the Net. version was too new to install some patch it tried to install during Steam launching. I can't get it to give that message again.

So I still have yet to see the game I already paid for. Any hints?
 
Have you tried posting on their forums or something like that? You may be meaning to the -NET framework 2 or something like that?

I had this problem but you can get it to work. Switch from DX9 to Dx10 mode, then quit the game. Then, reload the game and change the resolution. You might have to ctrl-alt-delete out a few times but once it sticks, you won't have any problems.
 
All I did was to change the Gamerprofile.xml file and it went straight in. I had it in DX9 mode already.
 
In answer to my own question the latest Nvidia CP Tools. 6.03 (I think) resolves the lack of fan support (according to the Guru 3D forums anyway) I haven't had a chance to test it yet though
 
Anyone else notice a slowdown when upgrading to the latest drivers? (edit: Nvidia)

I have a 8600m GT, I installed the latest graphic drivers since the game said my drivers were too old (yet ran ok), but they actually slowed me down a good 50%. Installing the 179.13's fixed everything and even sped up my TF2.
 
mine just kind of fixed itself when i de-installed from steam and redownloaded.

that was AFTER i had applied the hotfix and rebooted. and also uninstalled all my MSFT Net Framework crap which prob didnt effect it anyway.
 
Rivatuner 2.11 allows fan speed control. Tried and tested working
 
Well heck the game is still giving me a CTD once in a while, also Dead Space crashes and gives an application error after playing for some time.

Yet I'm running Bioshock, Assassins Creed, Devil May Cry 4 and god knows what else flawlessly. So yeah thanks Ubi and EA I love yuuu.
 
hey guys... i've tried everything that's been suggested and i still can't get my copy to work. Whenever I use the benchmark tool, however, I do get an image...but as you can see, it's all fucked up :(

Turn HDR Bloom on. I get a black screen with it off.
 
just got the game this weekend and got the black screen as well. I found that if I disabled the AA in the game's graphics options I'd never get the black screen.
