Release notes much the same as 178.13's. Looks like mostly compatibility issues are being addressed.

Cool. Its been awhile since a new release. I was starting to think the weekly driver updates were coming to an end. :p

still 100% clock when using internet explorer and playing video files. Power consumption jumps more than 40 watt browsing internet? come on nvidia

Yah, what's up with that, been noticing that and finding it a bit ridiculous. Wish Nvidia would solve this issue that has been plaguing the 200 series cards since it's release. I'm starting to think that Nvidia hired some of the ATI driver developers...:p

There was one driver version a while back that throttled perfectly. The version number eludes me at the moment though. Since then, they seem to have broken it somehow. I agree, it's pretty rediculous.

Thanks for the heads up, honestjohn. :)
I'll check out user feedback prior to installing.

I wonder, I may try this but I think I am with Kowan on this.

The driver download on nvidia.com is 404 right now (for Win XP at least).
Anyone know where I can get either this version or the previous WHQL release for XP? The most recent (non-Quadro) release I see in the archives is 94.24.

This driver has the same bug in BF 2142 as the 178.15's. Going back to 177.92s. Again.

What bug would that be? I don't play 2142 but it might help to know what kind of problem you are experiencing.

There's a thing in the game, if you don't know, where you can run around cloaked. When you cloak, the screen goes almost entirely black and you can't see anything. That's not supposed to happen...it's just supposed to be blurred. It's the same thing when you take damage hits and/or get fragged, it's supposed to blurr, but with these drivers, the screen goes black. I guess it would be logical to assume that nvidia optimizations & the blurring effect in BF 2142 aren't playing nice together.

The performance gains, although nice for Vantage, just aren't worth it. The 177.92s are fine.

So, with the down/up-clocking problem. . . if I play some LotRO (or any other game). . . and then quit the game and return to the desktop, will I be downclocked appropriately? Will the problem only surface when I open IE and/or watch a movie?

Just wondering about the details/severity of the issue. It would be nice if I could leave the computer at the desktop without the the added power usage and heat while I'm having dinner and/or watching TV downstairs. ;)

I anxiously installed them and.....

I can't open NVIDIA Performance Monitor to re-enable SLI - it "stopped responding"

I think its an issue with my system though, when I tried to upgrade to the 177.xx drivers a while back I had the same problem. Ran driver cleaner, etc...and in the end rebuilt my system.

Any advice would be great so I don't have to do it again...I'm bummed - I should have left it alone :(

this is suppose to take card of the HDMI monitor issues. wonder how this will affect my registry hack that I used to fix it.

Did you alter an existing entry created by the driver? If so the new driver should override it.
You could always run CCleaner to clean up the Registry after uninstalling the old drivers. It asks you if you want to backup prior to any changes.
I use it on Vista and XP prior to going Vista only with no problems.

Ahh. I've never played 2142. Thanks for clearing that up. Hopefully that'll be ironed out soon.

I can't really tell any difference between these and the 178.13's. Although, I only tried TF2 for about 30min, all was running well and at a decent frame rate. Never really had issues with drivers like some do for some reason.

I really like these drivers, seeing good performance in games. Seem less buggy.

good question. I think its a windows entry proper, need to check. I may try it, and if need be I can manually remove the entry.
