Best netbook available?

So everyone that has one doesn't have a problem with the amazingly small resolution of 1024x600?

Whats teh difference between the 1000HA and the regular 1000H? Just no bluetooth? And does it have a Express card slot for a SIM card in the future?

The 1000H has Bluetooth and 802.11b/g/n, while the 1000HA doesn't have Bluetooth and only has 802.11b/g.

So far, that's the only difference I've been able to come up with. If there's any others, I'd appreciate knowing (especially considering I just put my order in for a 1000HA a few mins ago :D )

Yeah I don't have any bluetooth devices - and I figure if I need a bluetooth mouse or whatever, I could jsut get a bluetooth USB adapater and use it then

Could anyone with experience with the AAO's keyboard provide some feedback as to how usable it is for word processing and the like?

I'm in my last year of engineering as well, and have been using my One since late Aug. Keyboard takes a tiny bit of getting used to but as long as you don't have sausage fingers, you're good to go.

Ugh i dont know what to do! Im stuck between the 6 cell Aspire One and the Asus 10 inch http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220443

Doesn't the larger screen equal less battery life? Yet the egg says 7 hours of battery life.. a bigger screen would be nice, but my largest concern is battery life. I will be student teaching next year and going for 7 hours a day with this thing and would love it to last me a long time with the battery.. this year ill still be using it for class, longest consecutive class is 5 hours.

Does anyone have any thoughts / person experiences with that Asus?

While I don't have an AAO yet, I won't have issues with the resolution, no. I currently use a Dell Axim x50v in VGA mode that I've had for some time now and believe me, if you want small and high resolution, there's not much out there that can top a 3.5" LCD with 480x640 (portrait mode, 640x480 landscape) resolution and a 163 dpi. ;)

If you want to see the difference between the QVGA (240x320 portrait, 320x240 landscape) modes and true VGA mode on this device, check out the pics on this page to see how much more information can be displayed more efficiently (albeit smaller):

http://mobilyazilar.blogspot.com/2007/01/what-is-difference-between-vga-and-qvga.html

and also:

http://carnero.cc/mobility/qvga-nebo-vga/ (not sure what language the page is in but it's the pics that matter, I guess)

And think, the iPhone/iPod touch has a 3.5" LCD at 320x480 portrait/480x320 landscape - my Axim blows it away in terms of resolution. I can watch DivX/Xvid rips at 640 pixels wide directly on the Axim without needing to re-encode/transcode them to some other format like mp4 as well. Lemme tell ya, Iron Man looks fantastic on this thing. :D

A bigger LCD doesn't necessarily mean more power required: a 1024x600 7" LCD would technically use the same or roughly the same power as a 9" or 10" 1024x600 LCD - they end up having the same number of pixels, so the same number of transistors in the LCD matrix so, roughly the same amount of power. "Bigger pixels" doesn't translate into more power required to make 'em work. ;)

Yeah, I'm aware that bigger pixels doesn't translate into more power required... not sure where you got that from.

What I'm asking, is for actual work being done, as in other than light internet browsing, how is the small resolution for working on? You don't get to see a whole lot compared to even a 13" or 15" notebook's regular resolution of 1280x800. 1024x600 seems a little restrictive, even claustrophobic for working on :p

And BTW, I regularly check up on my usual message boards on my Blackberry curve, which has a 240x320 resolution I believe. Definitely can't fit much on there, but still, it's enough to read most web pages easily enough.

You stated that you didn't know where I got the question of "more power required" so I pointed out why I responded with the answer for that other poster I quoted as well.

I reported in another thread I'm trying out dealextreme.com

Really cheap bags shipped out of hong kong. Mine was shipped, just not here yet. Soon as they come in I'll report how they work out.

I ordered a 7" bag (some report fitting the AAO into it), and a sleave for 9" models. Both were under $10 shipped.

Does anyone know where to pick up a netbook sleeve/case?

Try out portable dvd player cases. I have one that fits my AAO perfectly.
It came with a fairly crappy fake leather cover, but it's really not sufficient for much.

Does anyone know of a Firefox addon that displays the address bar while in fullscreen mode? I'm looking for something similar to IE7's fullscreen functionality. I tried searching the Mozilla addon database to no avail.

Nevermind. I made a mistake.

I had all the navigation and address bar elements moved onto the menu toolbar and disabled the navigation toolbar. Apparently in full-screen mode, the menu toolbar doesn't display. Moving all the elements over to the navigation toolbar did the trick.

I have been using the asus 900 for about a month now and it has been great. Just about put away my other laptop, an averatec from about 3 1/2 years ago.

Recently i ordered a laptop sleeve from http://www.christonium.com/laptopsleeve/. It is a lot nicer than the neoprene one that came with the netbook.

Im posting this from a XP flavored aspire one, and I love it. Only had it for two days now, and its been great. After wiping all the bullshit that was loaded on it, its runnin like a champ. XP boots faster than my quad at home, and everything else is just as fast. My only gripe is the terrible speakers, but hey its a netbook so what do you expect.

Who the hell wants to game on a 10" or smaller LCD panel?

Me. I dug out Morrowind for my Aspire One. 8.9" screen. I plan on playing, among others, some Civ 3, Red Alert 2, and Age of Empires as well.

If you want that, go get a PSP or something, hell even an iPhone or iPod touch these days (it's far more powerful than a PSP btw).
No.
