Just thought I'd share with you all that Fry's now lets you order off of Frys.com and pickup in store.

What does that mean??

Well Fry's has a nasty habit of lowballing stuff on their website with the same item being 15, 20, 50% or more in the BM.

I've been watching some Patriot memory and it was $79.00 in store and $59 on the web site. I bought it on the website by CC, ($59) using store pickup option, went to the store, it was laid out waiting and I paid cash (or CC if you want) for it there ($59).

So finally we can get the killer net deals without waiting days for delivery and paying shipping. (tax is bad enough!!)

Does this mean people who do not have a frys anywhere close can order at the same good prices and have it shipped?

Uh you've got it backwards ihaveworms. Prices IN store are higher than the website, you've always gotten the good prices.

I live in Vegas and was just at Fry's on Saturday discussing this with one of the shift supervisors. It's still in progress and not every single item listed on the website is available for in-store pickup. He specifically said - and mind you I shop at Fry's quite often so I'm familiar with the majority of the staff at this store, and this guy is one of the handful that actually knows most of what he's talking about - that the system had just started up (in-store pickup) and you'll note that some items on www.frys.com will actually show "In-Store Pickup" as an option right there on the page next to the price.

If you don't see that, they don't have to honor it in the stores, yet, and they probably won't. As it says at the bottom of every Frys.com webpage:

"Frys.com prices good for online purchases only. In-store items and prices at Fry's retail locations may vary. Some online offers are subject to prior sale and may not be available."

So, YMMV on this. I've seen 3 items lately on the website that offered "In-Store Pickup" and would honor the price, not that I was going to buy them, I'm just saying I noticed the option on the item listing and thought it was new, hence me asking about it when I dropped in on Saturday.

The system is in-place now, and they're ramping it up to make it as fast and efficient (HA!) as they think it can be but, I still have my doubts. Through closing tonight (2 hours from now) they have the Patriot 32GB SSD on sale for $109 with a $10 MIR; on the shelf the tag in the store here in Vegas still lists the price as $299.99 - that freaked me out a few days ago because I was going to get one but, on Thursday they wouldn't honor the price in the retail store here.

Come Friday morning the 12 page ad appeared in our local newspaper and guess what, right there in the components section there was the Patriot 32GB drive that's listed on the website for $109 + $10 MIR = $99 and change out the door. But the shelf sticker still says $299.99 and - amazingly - when I asked on Saturday if they had any left, the CSR said they had 8 in stock. I figured for that price they would have sold out in 10 mins on Friday morning after the store opened but I think that $299.99 shelf sticker scared people away that weren't smart enough to know what matters is the newspaper ad more than anything else.

So, while they will be honoring some prices from online at this time, it's not fully ramped up. You're taking your chances by going to a store and trying to get 'em to honor the online price (which sometimes is DRASTICALLY LOWER than the on-the-shelf pricing). Either they honor it or they don't, but I wouldn't push it too far. Easier to order online and save yourself the hassles or even being barred from the store over arguing about honoring a price... ;)

Edit:

Here's what I mean: Friday's ad has that Patriot 32GB SSD on sale for $109.99 with a $10 MIR making it $99.99 out the door in the B&M store. I just checked Frys.com and it's listed as $129.99 - $10 MIR = $119.99 online. Here's the newspaper ad:

http://newspaperads.mercurynews.com/ROP/ads.aspx?advid=32664&adid=6989200&subid=23777345&type= (Bottom left corner of the ad, item #5736702)

Here's the sales dates in the same ad:

http://newspaperads.mercurynews.com/ROP/ads.aspx?advid=32664&adid=6989202&subid=23782183&type=

And here's the current pricing online:

http://shop4.frys.com/product/5736702?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Same item, but this time, for a change, it costs LESS in the store, at least for another hour and 45 mins or so. RUN FORREST RUN!!! :)

Just pointing out how they seem to screw around a lot with pricing, but the in-store pickup thing will be a GOOD THING for all of us, especially those that have a Fry's in their area.

That's good to know! I live very close to a Fry's, but it's great I might be able to save even more!
I'll just buy from wherever is cheaper. lol

Uh you've got it backwards ihaveworms. Prices IN store are higher than the website, you've always gotten the good prices.

Not always, a lot of their advertised specials are instore only. Pretty much all the CPU/MB combos and just about anything in the weekly ad. I really miss living near a Fry's.

It's about time.....

It's weird that Fry's hasn't been doing this all along. I went round and round with them once over some ram that they had on sale on Frys.com that I had ordered and then they sent me an email that it was back ordered. I dropped by the store because I really needed it for a build I was doing and they had it in stock but they refused to honor the price of my order. That was the last time I bought from Fry's. I cancelled the order and bought some ram from CompUSA. I buy a LOT of PC components a year and they sure have lost more than that $20 difference by losing me as a customer. Oh well, F them, their loss...

The downside to this is I don't like buying stuff online using a credit card (had some problems in the past, it's just me). If they would honor the price I find online in the store this would be a bazillion times better, but they won't do that, that was the biggest question I had for that shift supervisor.

They will only honor the online price for in-store pickup
if you make the purchase online using a credit or debit card. The payment must be made completely online for it to work, so that's a negative to me but I sorta-kinda understand it.

Wish they'd just honor their own damned pricing but I guess that's wishing for too much... :(

Some stuff is cheaper in store and some stuff is cheaper online. If in-store pick up is available for the item, you can get the best of both worlds.

The last item I picked up in store took forever (CPU from the monkey cage, nothing special). They're not as organized as BB or CC.

Now how about some nearby stores. 1.5-2hr drive notyvm. And if would put their clearance stuff online :D

I went to my local Fry's on Sunday to get an eSATA multiplier and it was $70 cheaper online. I ordered it from my iPhone and said in-store pickup. By the time I walked through the line they had already brought it up to the cage. It was an all-around good experience, which is rare with Fry's.

Awesome, this makes Frys deals so much sweeter because i had to throw down an extra 10 bucks on shipping my PSU to me even though there are 2 that had them in stock for 40 bucks more than online.

When you buy something on the website and it gives you the option for instore pickup you get an email confirming stock and a quote sheet good for 3 days.

Once you have used your credit or debit card on the website neither one is charged until you are at the register in the store and at that time you may change to cash for the purchase.

There is no haggling or complaining,... period. If you get as far as the confirmation email it's a done deal...period! Smooth as glass.
If there is no instore pickup option....well.... it's NOT available for pickup..period!!

It doesn't work to go to the store and try and bluff 'em...you hands them the quote sheet you printed and they hands you your goodies.

Fry's is designed to hammer the wannabe's, Some real good deals and some that really blow. If you know your stuff and have the shelf tag (for those super in-store mismarks) they honor their prices 100%...they WILL try and fast talk you out of a mistake but being calm and firm wins the day.

I have my very own cart there :D and the computer staff also address me by name as my co-workers call Fry's "PT's private warehouse".

just for fun last week I used Kyle's vid card review and bought, tested and took back every card they had in stock that was in the review.

ATI wins hands down...and that's coming from an ex-Nvidia fanboy.

Are you absolutely 100% no bullshit positively certain of that? If that's the case then w00t w00t and triple w00t... but if you're not, and you're here in Vegas like I am... well... :D

I'm tempted to give that a go tomorrow, actually. There's a Kingwin multi-port USB to IDE/SATA adapter thingamajig I want, it's $25 in the store, $19 online... the savings would just about cover the cost of getting out there and back and leave me enough for a meal at Panda Express if that's the case.

If not, and I put in the order online (they have 11 in the store, I called a short time ago to confirm it), and they charge my debit card anyway man I'll be a bit pissed. Yes, I know I'd still be getting the item for the lower cost but, I prefer to do everything - and I mean everything especially purchases at Fry's - in cold hard cash. It's less frustrating in the long run if I need to make a return and if that's the case, I want my money back on the spot and not 3-7 days later because of a credit or debit card refund.

Hmmm... the plot thickens...

Also note that not all Fry's locations carry all the items that are on the website and vice versa or may have it in stock Thus explaining why you may not have an option to pick up certain items in store.

Las Vegas Fry's, 5:43PM, TODAY.....

in fact I paid $39 cash and the balance with a different debit card than the one I originally used to start the deal.
(I use different accounts for net and local)

Didn't matter one bit!!!

Of course YOU will have to tell 'em what YOU want...hahahahaha

I used to work at Fry's as a cashier and I can tell you this. You're never charged until you pay at the front register. Customers are often confused about this since the website actually asks for their credit card info..... then promptly discards it. You take your order number to the local B&M, wait in line like anyone else, give the cashier your number, get your item, and then pay with whatever you'd like. Be it cash, card, or check. Take this information with a grain of salt though, as my information is from one year ago although I'm fairly sure they haven't changed anything yet.

I'm really surprised that no one in the Bay Area knew about this, the Fremont store has had this for well over a year now.

Thanks for the heads up Moo. Worth the trip to Downer's Grove from Chicago.

I've done this a few times at my Fry's in Fremont, CA where it's been available for some time. It's weird, but yep, the online prices are often better than in-store, plus you save on shipping. And it gives me an excuse to go into Frys - hey, it's good entertainment looking for clearance stuff sometimes.

I also like that you can buy online and then decide you really don't need that extra Core 2 Duo to sit next to the other two hot deal CPUs you bought but still haven't used, you just don't go pick it up. Not that I do that often, but I'm sure we've all ordered something and decided we didn't need/want it right after it shipped. :) I will say they don't quite have it streamlined - the last two times I've went to pickup, it's take the cashier about 10-15 minutes to find my item - but it's always been there.

Okey dokey then. If I can find time to make the trip down south I'll give it a go tomorrow and report my results, if necessary.

That is not 100% true. I got in on the recent e7200 deal, ordered one for store pick up. Order was placed on Oct 1st, got the confirmation email the same day. Went to pick up the CPU on the 3th, they told me it's being canceled. On the confirmation email it indicated that the order is only good till Oct 2nd. I asked them why, they told me becuase the sale price was only good for Wednesday and Thursday. Which makes me wonder what if I order something on sale on Thursday nite after Fry's stores are closed, will I ever get a confirmation email stating that I need to pick up my order by the end of that Thursday???

I hardly ever see 'killer deals' at Frys.com anyway... only every great once in awhile. Most of the good stuff is B&M only in their newspaper ads.

Fry's.com is super hot for hard drive deals and cases. Although, those prices are in stores too.

Too bad I don't have a frys even remotley near me :(

One thing you have to watch doing in-store pick-up is they will sometimes try to give you a returned or open boxed item. You know the ones that have the big white stickers on them.
I bought 2 cases this way and both times they tried to give me a white stickered item and both times I had to go with the guy to make sure I got a new item.
Just a FYI to check the box of your pick-up.

Fry's runs its sales Friday-Tueday and Wednesday-Thursday. My guess is that if you placed an order on Thursday evening, you'd never be able to pick it up if it was on sale. Fry's is really screwy about their policies.

Fry's is a "special" place. How they stay in business I'll never know.

Clueless staff, no real customer service to speak of, no organization, and only a general idea of what their stock is. It is likely one of the worst retail experiences there is.

Yet... If you know exactly what you're looking for and know where to find it, Fry's is great place to shop.

The liberal return policy is half the fun.

You described just about every B&M computer store Ive been in.

Fry's should open a store in the DC metro area, the only competition is WorstBuy and MicroCenter; Fry's kills both of them. Last time I was in California, I bought so much odd stuff there, I had to mail it back to myself... it was still cheaper than buying some of the stuff locally or off the net, even with CA tax.

Price is king, plus no other electronics stores have any service to speak of either. Best Buy employees aren't exactly roadmaps to computer technology, and unless they screw up somehow, Best Buy prices are best described as "OMFG are you serious? You want three times the Newegg price?" Same is true for Circuit City... so who else is there?

So it leaves you with online retailers, Fry's, or butt rape by BestBuy or Circuit City.
