Microsoft Technet Subscription Student Discount - $99/yr

Anyone know of or have a newer subscription code? About to get news hds/ hardware need newer os.

yah looking for updates regarding this :) most speculated it would be available again Sept 1 but that has been long and gone just waiting to get in on this deal when it comes back ;)

No offense, but what are you hoping to get out of it?

I realize more than that in software. It's just I already own most of that stuff, and can readily get it anyways...
I'd use it more for the support incidents, forums, things of that nature.

Ok let's just say it has value for those of us who don't already have all of Microsoft's software.

Are you insane? You get way more than $350 in software.

Are you insane? Do you actually need all that stuff or do you just install stuff to install stuff?
Compute Cluster
Windows SharePoint Services
SQL Server:
Application Platform Servers BizTalk Server, Commerce Server, Host Integration Server, Connected Services Framework, Customer Care Framework
Business Productivity Servers Content Management Server, Exchange Server, Office Live Communications Server, Office Forms Server, Office Groove Server, Office PerformancePoint Server, Speech Server, Sharepoint Server, Windows Sharepoint Services
IT Operations Servers: Identity Integration Server, Microsoft System Center, Microsoft Operations Manager, Microsoft System Center Capacity Planner, Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager, Systems Management Server, ISA Server

Seriously? You'd use some of that?

Most people don't even use half of Ultimate Office. My previous job used it heavily and I still didn't use all Office apps (only Word, Excel, Access, MapPoint, which is more than most people use ever, and still leaves like 75% unused).

Is it that hard for people to fathom that it might not be worth $350 bucks to someone but well worth $99... that seems to be his point. I wouldn't pay $350 for the sub either, but I was willing to pay $99 for it.. Seems pretty logical to me.

yea id pay 99 but not $350....but seriously anyone know of a newer code?

best I've found so far is 40% off
TLNW08
so it comes out to $209.40

Whether or not you use it is beside the point. Having the ability if you wanted to learn about a particular product and you needed a license to do so and logging in and getting it is a welcomed ability for some. :)

I have some clients who use SharePoint (much to my dismay), Exchange, MSCMS, MSSQL, so, yes, I would use some of that software. Though most certainly not all of it by a long shot. The point is that you get several licenses of everything, so it is worth quite a bit.

This is TechNet, not StudentNet, OfficeNet or SpartaNet -- it is aimed at people who work in IT and will use a large portion of the software they are offering. I guess that's why to some of us, $350 is a bargain.

It isn't for production environments.

lol owned.

Dude you are NOT supposed to use this for production.
If MS ever sniffs that you are doing this it will be very embarrassing.:p

This is good for test boxes.

Uh,
Microsoft software licensed for evaluation purposes. Evaluate full-version commercial products without time limits or feature limits, including Microsoft operating systems, servers, and Office System software. With full-version software, you can make informed decisions about new technologies and deployments at your own pace.

You can use this on production servers to "evaluate" your interest in further deploying MS software on the rest of your fleet -- for as long as you want. What's Microsoft going to do? Run over to my place, smash open my rack unit and say "HEY! Have you been evaluating our software?!"

Please. Like even half the people who ordered this are going to be merely "testing" the operating systems they're installing.

That doesnt make it right....do you have any morals?

I saw this at The Register. While no where near as good as TechNet for $99/yr it does have some goodies to be had if you can be verified as a student:

https://downloads.channel8.msdn.com/

Windows 2003 Standard, Visual Studio 2008 Pro and some other stuff for free for students.

Anyways where the **** is the deal?
Xp sp3 x64 and vista ultimate badly needed.

because xp x64 is based on win2003, which is also on sp2.

The promotional code isn't valid. I just tried it. The deal is dead.

with this dea; ( when it comes around again) you get 10 digital copies of all the things listed? or 10 copies of 1 thing?

You have a keycode that can be used to install the product up to 10 times (possibly more, some are saying, if you call Microsoft and have it reset).
