Hey Everyone,

I've been dealing with this problem for a while now and can't figure out what the issue is. I receive the below error any time I attempt to right-click something in Explorer, delete something in explorer, etc...I've tried un-installing and re-installing the C++ 2005 Redistributable and the SP1 for that. I've gone through a few other items, but I can't seem to find a solution. I've seen many others with similar errors, but none of them involve explorer.exe. HELP!

If its a right click, it sounds like its something that installed an addon to the right click menu in explorer and not explorer itself.

I don't know how you track down which addition, but i'd start uninstalling dodgy software you may have until you find the culprit.

Thank you for the suggestion ambient. Unfortunately, it seems that it is not strictly right-clicking that brings up the error. A few other things such as highlighting an icon and hitting the delete button on the keyboard do it. The odd part is that if I right-click on the Recycle Bin, it works fine.

If you get autoruns from sysinternals.
  1. Run autoruns.exe
  2. Select the Explorer Tab
  3. Scroll down until you see registry entries that contain "ContextMenuHandler"
  4. Try unchecking the non-microsoft entries
  5. You might have to reboot

If that doesnt work, you should be able to restore things by going back into autoruns and re-checking the ones you unchecked.

Be careful, you can probably screw things up worse this way :(
