I think we need this thread, come on people, show off a bit. I want to see the pretty things I keep hearing about.

Sorry, my chosen still looks retarded. When I get better gear in T3 I will post pictures. :D

EU Goon keep raids :)

I'd be worried if it looked worse than WoW, but that's me. Judging from the above screenshots I think it's a little prettier, slightly more gussied up and such, without being prettier enough to require a major system update...

god seeing this makes me wish that someone would just remake Shadowbane to today's standards (graphically that is). Now that would be a GREAT game.

Not a flame or anything, but god damn that looks exactly like WoW.

QFT when i first saw that pic I thought it was some smart ass posting a pic of WoW. The symbols and architecture look heavily influenced by the blood elves of WoW.

What do you guys freakin' expect? They're both about Elves, Warriors, etc. They're going to have the same basic concepts... big guys in armors, etc. And to be fair, Warhammer has been around longer than Warcraft, and many people argue that Warcraft stole most of their ideas from Warhammer.

As for "it looks like WoW". No, the art is not in the same direction in any form. They're both MMOs though, and I guess all of them do have a certain look to 'em. Even pseudo-MMO Guild Wars. (Which IMHO looks more like WAR than WoW does)

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.....Are you sure about that statement? Warcraft has been around since 1995. You realize that right?

It doesn't matter. When you release an MMO years after WoW that graphically looks the same as wow with maybe some better textures, something is wrong.

I played it last weekend, it sucked. I could not believe the horrible animations of skills and the lack of ingame AA option.

seriously, that is the most ignorant thing i have ever read. even more ignorant than "I KUT THE METIL THINGZ OFF MY GRAFIX CRAD TO MAEK IT FIT IN MY COMPOOTER"

"The first edition of the game, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, was published in 1987"

Bwahaha omg I like totally win, lulz.

LULZzz0rz LykE I didnt know boardgames counted too

I dont really care either way for WoW or this Warhamer copy of WoW. Why the hell would someone sacrifice ALL their invested time in WOW and switch to play this carbon copy? This will be squashed in a matter of a few months just like Age of Conan was.

Do you think Warcraft was magically the first thing of its nature? If you are saying WAR looks like WoW for those reasons.... Newsflash: Warcraft didn't invent Orcs (Neither did Warhammer.)

Do you think WoW's warrior looks like my Chosen I posted?

The art concepts are vastly different. WAR isn't too great on graphics, but it wasn't meant to be. Look at AoC, didn't work too well for them. No point in making a game the mainstream PC user cant play.

Edit:

Do you know anything about WAR? It's not a "carbon copy". I'm not going to spend time telling you what the differences are, as you don't seem to care. People are leaving because they realize WoW's PVP is lame and want something that DAoC gave. WAR is promising, and so far delivering on that.

"Since first appearing in 1983, Warhammer has been periodically updated and re-released with changes to the gaming system and army lists."

Oh, and in before the inevitable "LOLZ, Tolkien was before Warhammer", followed by the "LAWLS, folklore and fable was before Tolkien"... blah blah blah

So did the retail release have better graphics than the Beta, like all the beta guys insisted was the case?

Just wondering, but is this game based on the Warcraft III engine? If so, then it would explain a lot.

And most people get pissed when people talk about Diablo 3's graphics. The graphics are good for the game, except for how the animations get choppy from far away. Aside from that this game is much better than WoW, I'm having a lot more fun than I did with WoW.

Given that it's a rival company with no links to and in direct competition with Activision-Blizzard it's highly unlikely that Blizzard would license out it's tech.

It's almost certainly a proprietary engine that just happens to look similar.

Honestly though, I think the art style has more to do with it, if you go back and look at the last 25years of warhammer art, WAR maintains that style, and WoWs style is very similar because it was influenced by the Warhammer style.

As people keep pointing out, the Original Warcraft was initially developed as a licensed Warhammer game, but the deal fell through so Blizzard couldn't call it Warhammer anymore, the style was already there.

So yeah, I'm as big a Blizz fanboy as anyone, but the simple truth is that the Warcraft art style is *directly* derived from the original Warhammer art style.

It's just sort of unfortunate that WAR had to come out later than WoW and most folks have no historical knowledge of pre-videogame Warhammer, so it gets accused of being a rip-off.

So because it existed as a table top game for many years that somehow has anything to do with the similarities with the latest PC games?

If you really want to play that game what about D&D?

Thats complete bullshit. Go back through the old screenshots af both games and youll clearly see blizzard was using this style of animation long before warhammer. Even looking at the art from the old table top you can see its vastly different from warcrafts style and if you take a real look youll even see on the PC this style has only been recently adopted by the warhammer franchise.

Warhammer may predate warcraft as a title but thats all.

war is basically wow with improvements but more focused on pvp aspect rather then pve
p.s i love themadhatterxxx he reminds me of my 8 yrs old little cousin

This really looks like nothing new. I don't understand why people get such massive hardons for these kinda games and keep coming back to them.

Surely there's only so many times you can repetitively kill monsters or "collect x amount of y and take it to z" before you lose the will to live?

this sums it up for me - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progress_Quest

I'm enjoying the game. That's all that matters to me. Forced AA works and looks perfectly fine on my 4870. *shrug*

You can say that about any genre of game, especially FPS. People keep playing them for one simple reason: Fun.

I know this "fun" stuff is a hard concept for a lot of people to grasp but maybe some day you'll figure it out.

Quite a shame this thread degenerated into a "ONG IT LOOKS LIKE WOW LOLAOL!" but I'm not surprised to say the least. It's either this or another PS3 vs 360 thread I guess.

I came to this thread to see screenshots and theres only like 4. :(

Thanks to those who posted.

Vastly different?

Really?

I see cartoonish with a hint of comedy, which is also what I see when I look at WAR and WoW.

I guess it's subjective.

the reason everyone is surprised it looks like wow, is because that was where it was suppose to differ the most (alongside the pvp aspect). i have to admit, it looks rediculously close to wow....so all that hype and praise about it being "wow's replacement" makes that fact pretty funny.

p.s.: i have never played wow beyond the trial.....this is just an outsiders perspective :p

p.p.s: ONG IT LOOKS LIKE WOW LOLAOL!

Protip: There's more to a game than the graphics.

Perhaps the difference lies there.

Of course we all know this right? Oh we don't? Damn. :(

Protip #2: we're in a screenshot thread.

We are? Where's all the damn screens then? Looks to me we're in the "LOL! IT LOOKS LIKE WOW" thread.

Hmmm...

Having stated that it's a screenshot thread, why did you bring up PvP and stated that it was supposed to "differ the most"? Differ the most? Really? Two games of the same genre with the same original source material won't differ that much I'd say, but I don't make games I just play 'em.

I also want to know the answer. Everyone was saying the beta download would be too large if they included the full textures and high rez graphics. Well retail is here now and I don't see anything better at all, and no in-game AA/AF option WTF
