Remember that story we posted back in April about your laptop being subject to search at the border? Well there are politicians trying to create a set of guidelines that will protect your electronic data against searches by the Department of Homeland Security.
Currently federal border agents may conduct border searches and seize travelers' personal laptops and other electronic storage devices without evidence or suspicion of wrongdoing. This bill would strengthen protections for U.S. citizens and their property by establishing specific guidelines concerning the retention, storage, copying and sharing of personally identifiable information that may be contained in seized electronic devices.
