so what do you consider high resolution gaming?

Any screen capable of displaying more than 2 million pixels. (So 1920*1200 and up)

Because of teh jaggies!!!!

Seriously though, I never understand AA/AF/etc... with resolutions above like 16x12. You can't really see any difference

Oh yes you can.

The primary determining factor for visibility of aliasing is pixel pitch, not size or resolution.

The lower the pixel pitch, the harder it is to see aliasing.

Even @ 2560x1600 (0.25), i find it easy to see aliasing.

It goes in grades, "High Resolution" doesnt define anything.
It also depends on how big a screen you use and how far away you sit from it.

At the moment... I consider ~1600 res to be the very lower end of High Res.
1280 res on a monitor is too blocky for me except on a 15" screen.
1600 res looks pretty good on a 20" monitor but not so good on a larger TV.
For a large TV, 1080p res is the minimum.

A good reason to consider 1080p or higher as high res is due to the 1080i satellite feeds for TV and Blu-Ray video.
1080i TV looks better on 1080p than 720p so if you watch high def video streams / Blu Ray, 1080p is your minimum.
(Not gaming but worth taking note of)

640x480
remember the days of "I got a VGA card bitches!!" :p

but skeriously
high resolution = high defenition = 1080p and higher
so 1920x1080 and higher (1920x1200)

1600x1200 is dead, since 4:5 / 4:3 is dead, 16:9 FTW

i hate 1680x1050 since its a cheap knock off, like a plasma that only does "720p"
cant afford a good screen? dont settle for crappy shit with halfalutions

Interesting - I guess after years of playing games like Angband I'm just happy to have graphics that conist of more than a '@' :D

Ah heck, what you really want is UHDTV. :D

My entire wall showing 7680 x 4320 for Oblivion, Stalker, CoD4, etc. would suit me just fine...

Hmm, would probably never get any work done though. :D

Btw, I normally play at 2048 x 1536, though I'm having problems getting this mode now
after temporarily switching to a monitor that doesn't support it (Dell P1110). Am now using
a Dell P1130, but no matter what I do I can't get above 1800 x 1440 now. Wierd...

Ian.
