My brother turned on my computer and ever since then it has stopped working...i dont know why? i tried a new power cable, but it still didnt turn on, i think it might be the PSU but im not sure how to check? (and i cant find the green motherboard light...)

So pushing the button does nothing? No fans or anything? Is the switch on the back of the PSU flipped? Maybe he flipped that to shut the PC off.

nope it does nothing...ive checked and its on...he said the computer just turned off and when he tried to restart it, nothing happened...

Remove the power cable from the back of your computer, and remove your side panel. Reconnect your ATX and other critical power connections to your motherboard, and only have your RAM seated. So you should have your RAM, ATX power and CPU power connection, along with your CPU and HSF installed and connected. Verify that there is no blown or bulging caps on your capacitors. If there are damaged capacitors you will need a new motherboard, but if the caps look okay then reconnect your power cable and give it a go.

unplug the computer, hold the power button down for 10-15sec, then plug it back in and try to turn it on

i dont have enough time to do this, are there any other solutions you could suggest?

You should probably find time to do that if you want to diagnose your system. If you don't have time to do that buy a new PSU and cross your fingers.

It only takes like 3 minutes to remove all the connections inside your case and reseat the ATX and CPU power connetions and reseat your RAM.

I agree, but its probably your PSU.

Does your PSU smell like one of those copper motor cars that you used to race around a track as a kid?:D

If so, replace the PSU and make sure your motherboard isn't damaged by checking your mobo capacitors.

if you really want to check the PSU just swap it with another one....you could test it but it doesn't sound like you have that equipment

I'd make sure everything is alright with the mobo though...it could be a number of things

All good advice, to be sure. However, I feel that we're missing the most important element!

The brother!

I would suggest beating him until the PC starts working again. Remove the cable from the PSU and use that to whip him into shape. The old rule of: you break it, you buy it after you've had the crap beaten out of you!"

Sounds like your PSU has left the building - get a new one if you don't want to take the trouble to fault-find.
