I'm building a home server that will be a database and web server
for a business site and an online business (e-commerce) site.

I need recommendations for parts from the retail market.
I using parts from the retail market to cut costs since I don't want
to buy the more expensive server oriented parts.

I've selected AMD because I know their highend chipsets support
ECC memory.

Any suggestions?

Software wise, the server will be running either MS-SQL or MySQL,
IIS or Apache and Windows Server 2000 or 2003 as a Database and Web server.

Pre-thanks for the comments and help.

Hmm.. Server builds are usually more indepth that a standard workstation, gaming box. Will you also be running a RAID? Seeing that you will be using it as a database server and as webserver, you are looking at some pretty beefy hardware. unless you like being underpowered.

I'd take a look at geeks.com or tigerdirect.com and look at their barebone server builds and take it from there. They are usually really cheap and you get some deals from them. I picked up a dual operaton barebone for a game server from Geeks.com about a year ago.

Also, you'd prolly get a better answer putting this in general hardware or Multiprocessing Systems.

Good Luck!
