I have an ASUS M3A78 Pro with on-board audio w/ SPDIF output. When connected up to a Denon receiver (via digital coax), the signal will intermittently drop out. I've tried rolling back the driver and get same issue. Output works fine when using the analog outputs to the receiver. I've also verified that it is an output issue by hooking a DVD player to the receiver and get no dropouts. Any ideas?

possible loose or bad spdif port on the mobo? ya know? give a good jiggle and see if the pause happens

I'll play around with it. I was really hoping it was software and not hardware, sending it in to ASUS is a pain.

possible bad coax cable? you using the same cable between the dvd player and receiver?

That would have been my guess. I had the same problem with an Asus board..Bought a new coax from MonoPrice and it works fine. I got lucky, sending a MoBo back is a pain.
Good luck
