I'm about to purchase a Crucial Ballistix memory kit. It's specs are as follows:

Part #: BL2KIT12864AA1065
DDR2 PC2-8500
5-5-5-15 Unbuffered NON-ECC
DDR2-1066 2.2V 128Meg x 64

These are single sided modules and i have heard that they don't have Micron D9 chips. Is that right?

I'm looking for your valuable comments, TA.

Yeah I believe the 864 in the part number and the 2.2v rating give them away
The newer single sided ones are rated at 2.0v and supposed to be better, but are not micron d9's
When recently looking for ddr2 i got ddr2 800 ballistix and Corsair Dominator ddr2 1066 Both were junk, the crucial lasted 4 days and the Dominator was DOA and single sided. I ended up buying OCZ reaper 1150 that it is my sig. I believe that alot of the reaper is still d9's and they are priced well on Newegg.

The OCZ 2x1gb SLI Edition modules I got rather recently were still double-sided (and very likely older chips based on the high voltage rating), but one was DOA. They're also a bit pricier than garden variety DDR2 unless you catch them during a rebate like I did. The other stick runs wonderfully though...better than my 2.2v Ballistix modules did even before they died. Once I get back from vacation I will test the 2.0v Ballistix RMAs I should have waiting on my doorstep. Then I can RMA the OCZ and pray I get more double-side modules back. If anyone has seen actual reviews of the new 2.0v Ballistix please link us.

How can we tell which ones still have micron d9, if they even do at all and double sided vs single sided? Any difference between the black tracers vs the red ones other then the red one having leds at the bottom?

Was thinking of upgrading from my 2x1gb ddr2-1066 ballistix and this is making me think otherwise.

I have some of those new ballistix 6400 tracers and they are GARBAGE i RMAed my old set after a year at 4-4-4-4-1t@500mhz lostem due to computer room AC failure like 80 degrees indoors, but anyway the new ones won't OC anywhere near that or run cas3 at low speeds.

I have 975x and RD600 platforms so tight timings or high speeds are what i need.
no more crucial for me until i7 and ddr3 upgrade.

I don't have the model number but I lost a pair of Crucial Ballistix modules in my rig (sigged) and the replacements from Crucial were full of Memtest86+ errors. The Mushkin that replaced them have been 100% solid. I've been very happy with Mushkin and will probably use them on future builds.....

I have dual sided 4x1GB Crucial Ballistix in my gaming rig and they work great. The single sided modules tho i've heard very mixed reviews on. Some have no problems with the RAM, others say without the D9 chips they just burn up and die.
