x2 4200+ on a DFI LP Sli-D NF4 Mobo ..

I wonder what other x2 4200+ owners have theirs oc'd to on air.. let me know..

...
Too bad all the response is nay-sayers ditzing our choice to continue running our SK939's.

If y'all have transitioned to Intel, or even AM2... that's fine, I got no beef. I know the performance is higher. So, move on and leave us to chat about 939's.

The fact is, SK939 is far from dead... more like retired greyhounds, looking for a loving home. :D
That's a good way to put it. I know someone who works for AMD in process engineering. I bitched to him how we S939'ers are still a little pissed that AMD dropped the Socket 939 line so quickly. He gave me a sympathetic ear, LOL. :D

I'll rock this PC as far as I can take it before it's too slow. My old PC (P2-450) lasted me about 7 years, although the last couple years were quite painful. If I can get a couple more years out of my X2 4200+, I'll be happy. :)

Still using sckt 939 here, will eventually upgrade, but this thing can play all the games without any problems and can do what I need to do also without any problems, so I dont really see a need to upgrade to something else.

Im still using my pc in my sig. Works great for what i do with it. I stopped playing pc games which helps me not upgrade as much.

I've got a 4600 x2 that doesn't even max out in CoD4. So that makes me happy. Also using a Ati 4850 to handle the graphics. :D

I built three S939 rigs a few years ago...

My sis uses a Venice 3000+

My Bro is on an X2 3800+

I use an Opteron 165.

939 FTW.

I gave my Socket939 system to my little brother (who is 20) with a 3200+ in it...
the 939 and AM2 are still very strong systems... but just can't keep up with the new Core2s and quad cores... hell I still have 2 AthlonXP systems here running strong (3000+ and 2600+)...

I ran 3D mark06 with the 4850 in my Opteron before pulling it. Got 9705 3D marks I think it was. I was running an Opty 165 at 2615 mhz

I now have a low end E2200 Intel. I will it again with the Intel, same exact video card, mind you the E series is one of the lowest power Conroe CPU's.

OK as promised I ran 3D Mark 06 with my E2200, at 2607 and got 10250 3D Marks. So even the lowly Pentium Dual Core with a relatively inexpensive P35 motherboard beats the Opty 165 and most likely any other S939 system when making apples to apples comparisons at the same clock speeds.

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=7840571

Same video card
Same power supply
Same amount of RAM (S939 cannot use DDR2)
Same OS/Service Pack level
Upgrade cost $185 after MIR (Board/CPU/RAM) and I have a CPU upgrade path from here, unlike S939.
I did also upgrade my hard drive, but it's not necessary if you're already using SATA on your S939 (I wasn't).

I have a AMD Sempron 3200+ s939 lapped running stock speeds (stupid oem board) bundled with 1GB ddr in my server.

Socket 939 is over. You guys need to go LGA 775, get a good cheap Core 2 Duo CPU and that will give you more performance then any AMD Socket 939 system.(or at least most)

BTW Do any of you guys have a 939 system with a high end card?

I went c2d after my last s939 board died and am going back as soon as I can afford a NIB neo4-f on ebay. C2D are slow!

Maybe I *like* my S939!

Actually I'm hoping to get another 8 months or so out of this thing (4600+/2GB/7900GT) and then go Nehalem or whatever AMD's 45nm shrink is going to be.

BTW, kudos to whoever dug this thread back up. I've got a post somewhere up towards the beginning of it, I think. My ASUS A8N mobo has lasted darn near 5 years and is still going strong (although most of the other components have been replaced). 939 was a fantastic platform :)

Sure thing, just buy me the new RAM and motherboard and I'll invest in a more modern chip. ;)

Just overclock til you can't overclock anymore. I finally hit 3ghz stable with my 165 and dfi sli-dr expert. Too forever to figure out all of the board's quirk, but once I did, 3ghz was easy. Memory is sitting at a nice 272.5mhz. Money saved from not upgrading to C2D will be invested in a better video card. I want more eye candy from my games. =D

I was blastin to work early this morn and passed a van, i think it was a radio station van. Anyway, plastered across the back windows said S939 talk. I was like "WOW, It really will live forever". Just had to share.

 That's funny. I wonder if the van driver even knows what S939 means. :D

I've just retired my opty185 in favour of an E8400, that was a good chip, I stuck with s939 as long as I could but I needed some more juice and some headroom, so it had to go.

I'll probably create some Frankenmachine out of parts and give it to my kid brothers, so I guess it'll live on.

opteron 165 still going strong! I probably won't upgrade for a year or two.

Dang! I should've joined the "alliance" 3 years ago! Been running my 4400+ into the dirt @2.75Ghz since I put it together. Only recently now, I am considering a new quad 9850/ 9950. I still <3 my s939 but the performance in media encoding just isn't there anymore. I was pretty set on grabbing a Q6600 before, but with some newer AMD and nVidia SLi boards out I think I'll be staying on the green side. One thing I can't decide is if I should keep the 4400+ around once I upgrade. Or straight up hock it on FleaBay... I bet I could get a pretty penny, but it would make an amazing second system for friends to game on. I guess thats something I'll have to worry about once I get my stuff ordered next Friday.

3 Years 6 months and still going strong @ 2.8

Still hauls through the latest games. I dont see a need for an upgrade!

This is a great analogy. My family used to have two retired Greyhounds.
Sure they're not fit for racing anymore. ...That doesn't mean their not "fast"
in fact more often than not, they got that rabbit! :D

Just like the s939, they may not be benchtest worthy for frontpage reviews.
But they can sure still compete!

Still running my x2 4800+ along with my 3200+ and 3800+. I do most of my [H] core stuff on my x2 but my HTPC is running with the 3800+ just fine. When I decide to upgrade my main machine soon, I will probably just drop my x2 into my HTPC and keep it going.

I'm still rocking my x2 4400+ with 3GB ram. It is still plenty fast. I just did a nice budget AM2 x2 2400 upgrade for my sister. It's plenty fast as well.

last 4 years I've had a 3700+ Sandy, Opty 154 Venus, 4200+Toledo which I'm still beating the snot out of it in today's newest games at 1680x1050. :D
I'll upgrade when my mobo takes a dirt nap. :p

Opty 165 here...just lapped this thing yesterday and my dumbass forgot to take pics.

I'm idling at about 33c...is that good? XP120 with yate loon

I've got an Opty 180 in a box that I really didn't need to upgrade from. I should have just stayed with that box. It does great for me in CoD4 which is all I play, but I got bit by the upgrade bug early this year so now its my back up box.

I have a AMD 4000+ San Diego running on a Asus A8V with an Ati X800 Pro. I bought one of the last of the 4000+ from New Egg to replace my 3200+ Venice. I use it to play some of my older games on. I am using the retail cooler that I got when I bought my 3200+. The 4000+ runs cooler than I thought it would. It seems to be a speedy cpu.

I had a 939 3400+ OEM at 2.2 which I sold with the complete system it was in. I still have an Opteron 170 packed away that I'm not using because I now use an Intel Q6600... The Opteron was a good CPU for my needs while it satisfied them. If I could afford it, I'd turn the Opty into a SFF lanbox (my gaming/media/everything tower weighs in at 70LBS so it's a bit of a pain to move).

My 3700 is still going strong after about 3 years and I won't be upgrading until Nehalem.

Yea it's a measly overclock by modern standards but it's folding as [H]ard as it can :)

FINALLY ditched my Socket 939 after many years. Sorry guys, keep fighting the good fight. New build in sig, my first Intel build ever and I been slapping these things together since the first gen slot Athlon came out. So far so good.

was debating on upgrading, after countless bottlenecking statements, and said fuck it, Grabbed some good ocing ram, and drove my 3800x2 to 2.9ghz, and so far 6 hours+ and still stable, i went from scoring 4200ish 3dmark06 with stock speeds with an 8600gt, to almost beaking 10k, im about a few hundred points off, but ill get there.

Crysis runs like a dream now as well on gamer details @ 1280x1024.

long live 939

Joining the alliance...

I have a s939 3500+ running for almost 4 years now. I has since become my g/f's gaming machine, but it still gets the job done

Also, I have a s939 3400+ as my HTPC

...is there an AMD fanboy club? or is this it?...lol

Hello fellow 939 owners!

My Opty 144 1.8 is still churning away happily at 2.9. it's been about 2 years since I built it, maybe 3, I don't remember.

I'll be on 939 for a while. I may eventually upgrade to a used dual core processor, but not thinking of building a new rig for a few years, I need my cash for a house.
