When is the 790GX coming out?

They've yet to hit one out of the park, but they are reaching base a lot more consistently. At least they seem to be trying to listen to users in some regards.

That is a good question. Does Kyle have the 790GX on the rack in the [H}arddungeon, putting the screws to that beast and whipping it to within inches of it's life until it screams in agony and/or ecstacy? If so, we can expect some much needed information. If not someone should do just that.

Normally the mobo review is done by DanD. If the 790GX review will be done by DanD, I won't be suprised if he compares it with a high end Intel system with a core extreme CPU like he always does.

So here's what I have so far:

Phenom x3 8450
GA-MA790GP-DS4H
8GB TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX

I installed Vista x64 SP1 with the SATA controller in AHCI mode and it worked fine, unlike some other reviewers for some reason. I then install the latest catalyst drivers (including north/southbridge), though I had to install the onboard video drivers from the gigabyte CD because for some reason the latest download from AMD wouldn't detect it. I then installed AOD 2.1.2 and started poking around since I've never used/seen it. I found where it shows ACC, however it was greyed out and I couldn't do anything with it. Further investigation on the web revealed I had to hit ctrl-f1 in the bios to enable the hidden options, one of which is the ACC enable. I then had auto, 2%, 4%, and so on available to me.

Let me stop here and mention that the gigabyte manual says absolutely nothing about ACC that I can find, let alone what the different percentages mean or of course the secret key combo to reveal it. I found a review of the same board where someone said gigabyte recommends +2% for the 9950/9850, +4% for the B2 9600, and +6% for extreme cases. Now I have an x3 8450 so I don't know what I should throw in there, and I have no idea where they got this recommendation from gigabyte, unless of course it was a direct line kind of thing. So I tried auto and +2%, and neither of them made a difference, ACC is still greyed out. I intend to try different options, but I noticed I'm having some trouble in windows and I'm guessing it's related to the fact that I'm running 8GB of RAM (erros on unzipping stuff, can't launch some programs). I know how finicky boards can be with all four slots filled, so I'm taking the time to memtest before I play any further, to make sure I'm stable. On test5, so far so good.:p

I wonder if we should start a dedicated thread for the GA-MA790GP-DS4H board? Your post was very enlightening and I'm sure we could come up with a lot of other good information once we start pooling resources.

I have a Phenom 9950 (big upgrade from my Socket 939 4400+) but with only 2GBx2 of memory. I just finished installing the board and am burning it in with Memtest as we speak. I bought all new hardware for this rig so I'm taking my time getting it up and running. Once the Memtest runs I'll boot up with Ubuntu 64-bit and see how that goes.

What's going on? Explain. On another note, the comments at Anandtech are hitting the fever pitch. Guys bitching about the GX review not being done and an obviously biased 4870x2 review. I'm beginning to think from what I'm reading around the web that rview sites are being bought off by the likes of intel and Nvidia (As if they don't have enough problems). Probably being paranoid, or am I?

I was wondering where the [H] 4870X2 review was yesterday... heh. I've done my Vista 64 install on my M3A78-T, & will be posting my experiences today. I'll update this thread when I do.

ya :(
I thought hybrid would just automatically shutoff the pci card and run on the onboard when in windows

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcbGV6Pfb6Q (fast forward to 2:35 or so)

So my guess is that this is a feature however it's not enabled in the drivers yet. If you google catalyst 8.8 drivers which should be out any day now, you'll also see people saying powerplay is finally working with that release, which could very well be this feature. We'll find out soon I imagine.

u mean 3:35 ;)
So it's just a CCC issue that's currently disable?

Doh, my bad yeah 3:35. And that's what I'm guessing. I was sure I had read that it would do that elsewhere, but I couldn't find it again and all the other reviews said it wouldn't do it and I started doubting I had ever seen it.

also claims it has eight expansion slots:

PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots 2
PCI-E x16 slots 2
PCI-E x1 slots 2
PCI Slots 2

if it really does have two 16x electrical slots i will be very interested.................

Just noted that the Foxconn is gone from the newegg page and the Gigabyte is still out of stock. Wondering what's up.

They're selling like hotcakes and they've run out...

The Foxconn was listed as out of stock yeaterday with
an EST: 09/01/08 for restock...

I was thinking they would have put an auto-notify button instead. I was worried they were recalling the boards. LOL

Ya, I see what you're saying... :)

Newegg is funny that way... Sometimes they do, sometimes
they don't...

Ever see an "Open Box" item being sold for more than the
price of the item new on sale...? :p

They probably found out that it may take a little longer to
restock than they had estimated... They'll be back for sure...

AMD is still tweaking BIOS and Drivers so no biggie... That's
most likely the reason the reviews have been delayed... ;)

OT- Hey, you got the same motherboard in your sig that I'm upgrading. Obviously you have the AMDCPU board. How is that?

It's just great for what it is and was probably the most
uneventful upgrade I've ever done... If it wasn't for the
quads (45nm's), PCI-E 2.0 and ACC/SB750, I'd probably
just stick a newer G'card in here and be done with it... ;)

But what fun would that be...? :p:p:p

None of the GX boards will be x16 - x16 electrical... There
aren't enough lanes available once you dedicate some to
the IGP...

It doesn't matter though as by the time the G'Cards need
more than x8 we'll all be running newer MB's anyways... ;)

The review was pretty harsh :p. But we'll see how personal experiences go because that's all that really matters in the end. I bought my 790GX in anticipation of relegating it to HTPC/Fileserver duties some time down the road. For now, its my cheapie gaming and general use computer.

Two more Biostar boards are scheduled to land at Newegg in the next two weeks so I would expect others to show up shortly as well. There's also DFI's uATX crossfire board that has to pop up sometime.

I believe the Biostar board is the one that has more sideport memory
and the other should be the MicroATX

Actually Biostar has 5 different boards based on the 790GX chipset. 2 have 128mb sideport with one being DDR3. Then there are the 2 uATX, one with 64 and one with 128mb, the XE. As I type I am running the AOD autoclock with the Biostar TA790GX A2+ and 9850 BE, 2.7Ghz and counting,

I've never owned a Biostar are they any good in quality and bios update?

I consider the boards themselves to be very good but definitely not newbie friendly because they don't really have US tech support forums and the packaged documentation is laughable.

BIOS updates happens pretty often. There are already 3 BIOSes out right now for the 790GX board. I've been very satisfied so far with the company since I don't really care about sexy packaging or extra accessories that I don't care about (heatpiping all over the board for example) and they deliver on the stuff I do care about, like stability and overclocking.

I saw it mentioned elsewhere that the DFI ATX board is arriving within the next week. Well, it said end of August that is.

Yet another 790GX on the way:
http://my.ocworkbench.com/2008/supox/AK790+GTR/g1.htm

I haven't heard much about SUPoX other than the usual skepticism and grumbling about a post-EPoX company. I like the cleaner layout with the SB+NB+Sideport memory?(not sure if it has sideport through since no mention in article) under a single larger heatsink and I like the SATA->E-SATA passthrough option for the back panel connector. The three system fan headers are all in the bottom right corner to help cable routing assuming you have the cable length to work with.

Bastards! GX3 gets all solid caps AND mosfet cooling??!!?

Travesty. I can think of no other word.

Biostar goodness ,,its actually clean looking with the basic heatsink for GX3(heatsinked and capped)

pretty
shure
it will
Have
a
friendly
price
hahaaa.
