I don’t know, these BestBuy airport kiosks look pretty handy to me. I don’t know how many times I left something at home when going on a trip and could have used this. Makes you wonder though, if a hamburger at the airport cost the best part of ten bucks, how much will a cell phone charge from a vending machine cost?

Called Best Buy Express, the kiosks will show up at a total of 12 airports as part of a "pilot program." (Ha, ha.) They are already installed around Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Dallas (DFW), Houston (IAH), Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), Minneapolis (MSP), and San Francisco (SFO). The rest of them are expected to be in place by September 1.

Houston (IAH) already had one as of August 2nd (probably earlier, but that is when I went through) in terminal A. Didn't get a chance to see the prices for anything though. It was located just next to a Rosetta Stone (language software) vending machine.

I dont see O'Hare airport on the list. It be pretty stupid of Best Buy not to put on there.

Okay idea I suppose, but their instore prices are already highway robbery... I can't imagine thier vending prices.

also I wonder how fast it will be until someone tries to break into one??

Well, the one at Houston was inside security. If someone is stupid enough to try to break into one after getting through security and thinking that they could make it out of the airport before being caught, I hope I know about it before hand so I can grab some popcorn and watch the show :D

They already have these at airports and I've seen them in vegas hotels/casinos too.
Except they weren't called "Best Buy Express" they were called "This machine that sells iPods/Headphones and does other stuff".

How smart are the people at best buy? They know how to steal someone else's idea, rebrand it and launch a "Test Program" for a product that already exist!

Must be really new or off in a terminal I have not been in, I mostly fly continental out of Houston.

Yeah, it is in Terminal A across from McDonalds and next to the Chili's restaurant. I think US Airways is the main airline that uses that terminal.

They have airports up there? ;)

Security are for entrances, not exits. Thousands of laptops, cellphones, bags, and electronics are stolen every year... it doesn't take much.

I doubt the airport would bother to put a camera on that machine itself.

You have the same risk of being caught whether you are inside the security zone or outside of it.

Your plane ticket is probably cheaper than the 512mb SD card

lol

Saw one at the arriving American gates in DFW. Prices were what you'd expect, at least for the Apple stuff.

"but has said that prices are "similar" to its own in-store ones"

Considering their in store prices are what you'd expect to see in an airport, this is not hard to believe.

Now available: 3 ft HDMI cables for $300!!!!!!1!11!/11/11one1`!!1/

I don't know why you'd need one in the airport, but it wouldn't shock me one bit to see it.

Never seen a Best Buy branded one but I've seen plenty of generic looking ones that sell things like iPods and PSPs. I'd never think to buy from one of those things in an airport terminal, but I wonder just how profitable they are. There must be some market if Best Buy is making a move there.

Could come in handy for a cable or something simple, but usually the location a person is going to will have a shop that sells the exact same thing and would probably be cheaper.

Bestbuy has something like a 300%+ markup on most of their cables... so I would say very profitable.

Now you can buy a laptop and have it confiscated immediately right at the airports. Saves time.

And firearms. They label your suitcase with a big ole sticker, letting everyone know what it is, as it rotates in baggage claim.:(

I'll have the wife check pricing at IAH in a few weeks for her next flight. Interesting there isn't a Sony kiosk. I've seen them in quite a few malls.

Are BB selling cables in these kiosks? The closest thing I can imagine seeing them selling are power adapters for phones or notebooks, otherwise it would be higher ticket items like ipods, PSPs, etc.
