Computer Uses Wrong Resolution

I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my laptop, and have been having some inexplicable problems with my Viewsonic Q19wb. Every other time I've installed Windows, I have done a restore from the CD, run the setup program on the driver CD, and everything was hunky dory.

With my most recent Windows installation, my video card is no longer happy. It refuses to give me the option of setting the resolution to my monitor's native 1440x900. I have tried installing the monitor's drivers from the CD, installing the most recent monitor drivers downloaded from the interwebs, and installing the most recent drivers for my ATI Radeon Xpress 200M video card, none of which had any effect. The only thing which has changed from every other installation is my VGA cable, and I can't imagine that causing any problems.

Any ideas?

No. I'm using it at 1280x768, since that at least has the correct aspect ratio. It does go directly from 1280x768 (which is my laptop's native resolution), to 1280x1024, and from there it goes to 1600x1200.

Powerstrip allows you to set custom resolutions - it only comes as shareware, but I believe that once you have the resolution set up, you don't loose it after the shareware period ends.

Try another restore perhaps? It's possible something went wrong during the driver install process, so trying again could get rid of the problem.

Thanks. I'm taking a look at the program. I'll report back when I get something concrete. :)

I have tried this - I've actually done a complete reinstallation of Windows (and the various drivers) two or three times in the last few days.
