Ok, so my Samsung 226 BW just died today.

I'm looking for a new monitor preferably, non-Samsung. This is my 2nd 226BW, first one I RMA'ed because it was flickering, this one was replacement, and now after 3 months it died.

I was looking at getting a 24'' for gaming. I'd also like it to have good colors, contrast, etc for HD movies, and pictures. I do a little bit of photo editing, but nothing hardcore.

I was looking at the Dell 2408WFP, but after looking at the dell forums they seem to be having issues with red hues, and half of the screen being brighter than the other half. However, some people giving reviews are like "zomg this is teh secks!!!". So I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not.

Another one I was looking at was the Dell E248WFP

I'm completely out of ideas for what to look for. When I find something that catches my eye, I read some reviews and there's something horribly wrong with the monitor that 1 out of every 25 people get.

So I'm more than open to suggestions and feedback.

You may want to look at the following. If you are not happy with Samsung (due to this experience), there are the following good screens:

1) BenQ G2400WD - 24" TN, 2ms response time, measured contrast of 900:1
2) Gateway FHD2401 - though reviews on it are not easy to find as it is a new model.
3) BenQ FP241W/FP241VW - Older, but still a good choice for gaming as it is low lag too, and a decent quality A-MVA panel.

The G2400WD is a low lag screen with above average color calibration and good pixel mapping capabilities that outstrip most screens from Samsung in that regard.

I would wait if you are interested in the Dell. The new revision/part number may solve this problem of screen uniformity and input lag to some extent (hopefully). It's starting to ship now, so maybe it will be available 100% within the next week or two from everywhere.

I am in a similar situation as well since my trusty LG had problems and I sent it back. I hated the BenQ V2400W I bought as a replacement so I returned that and I've now been without a monitor for 3 weeks or so. I normally would've dismissed any 22" monitors since they tend to use TN panels like the V2400W and most other 22" ones (most of which I have not been impressed with that I have seen in person).

However, I was able to use several different SP2208WFPs at QuakeCon last week and although I didn't game on them, I thought they looked really good so I was actually giving it some thought too. I'd hate to go below 1920x1200 but most 24" monitors don't seem worth the money. Hopefully the Dell 2408WFP's new revision will iron out some of the problems.
