When is the 790GX coming out?

does the 790GX chipset now have two 16x electrical PCIe slots now, because i remember when it was known as the 780GX it was rumoured to have only two 8x electrical slots?

the anandtech article did state two 16x PCIe slots, but didn't specify electrical or physical so i ignored it as a potential typo.

if someone makes a mATX AM2+ board with 140W CPU support and two 16x eletrical slots i will be delighted.

Very interesting update; however, going by the sound of it, a launch even this week doesn't seem likely :(

The Foxxconn 790FX + SB750s have been on sale in China for quite some time already.

Yep, Lost!, Pepsiennis said as much a few pages back in this thread. Too bad we can't share in your good fortunes. :(

Oh :p

I wonder if the ASRock, Gigabyte and Biostar motherboards have been posted though. [H] is being molasses slow for me today (and a lot of days) so my apologies

I Know :(

I still think the second week of August, it doesn't seem like any more reviews besides anand, they may launch with the 4870x2, who knows.

(GOD I hope im wrong)

I say on the 31st (tomorrow) ;)
Most of the manufacturers have their boards online...

Yeah but the problem is; is that nobody else seems to have reviews up yet besides anand, and they even had their Board was shown up surprisingly

also they talked alot about being on the phone constantly with AMD and Foxconn and them giving them Bios updates, so perhaps there is still bios tweaking going on with the new boards? Usually we get reviews 1-2 days before the release, but nobody seems to have anything to say.

From the looks of it they'll be worth it, but god only knows how much longer we're going to be waiting

"Foxconn is still developing the BIOS and we have sent our feedback on a few areas we would like to see improved, but overall, this board gets a recommendation from us."

I heard it was only going to be a couple of weeks late. Hopefully this board is worth it.

According to this French article, the 790gx boards are scheduled to be released August 6th:

http://www.pcinpact.com/actu/news/45119-AMD-790GX-SidePort-Phenom-HD-3300.htm

The reason for the non-existant coverage of 790gx is due to an NDA. There is also corroboration that the release is "early August". See this link:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14386022

I hope it's not until the middle of next week, but these two completely separate and unrelated links are really pointing in that direction.

I will let you know if you should. I think I am going to go for it. My oc went from 2.8 in XP to 2.6 in vista. if this would let me get that back and save some power....

Nice finds, AgentK7. Middle of next wk suits me just fine. The fact that so many mfrs will have boards available at launch is very good to hear as well. That thread makes me even more curious to see how the GX performance stacks up...

I must have missed it somewhere, so I apologize if I am beating a dead horse, but what's the difference between the GX and FX?

Hopefully the SB750 runs a bit cooler since it's 55nm instead of 65nm like the SB600. I had to put a nice copper sink on mine so I could up the volts without it getting toasty.

Well color me excited :D Too bad the only search result on Newegg for "sb750" is that board right now... The rest of the boards gotta hit this week now... right?

I almost pulled the trigger since I'm going to do one for my wife's machine and probably one for myself, but I figured I'll wait to see what other board prices come in at and which processors pair with the new southbridge for the best value. I don't plan on overclocking, but if it's just flip a few switches in the AOC program I might change my mind. Not buying high end coolers or anything anymore though. I just got tired of all the time it takes.

I pulled the trigger on the Gigabyte board from Newegg. This is the one that I was seriously looking at anyway based on all the pre-release boards from Computex.

Well if Newegg has two boards in stock for sale this sounds like it's going to turn into another HD4870 situation where AMD just has to release the NDA because the stores wanna get the word out for available stock and review websites get upset because reviews start popping up from people that bought the boards retail and aren't affected by an NDA.

Ha I'm kicking myself because I changed my mind and picked up the gigabyte board. Then I see the foxconn one for a little cheaper and free shipping. I called Newegg just to see if it was possible to edit the order and they said it's already been boxed and scanned. Within 30 minutes!

It's all good, I'm going to pick up another one at some point anyway and this can always be my wife's board if there's something I don't like about it.

Ya they are both pretty much the same so the foxconn is probably a better value. Since I bought a Antec Mini case, I need to wait even more for their Micro ATX :(

well, look at the bright side you will receive your mobo pretty much on the day of its official release ;)

I think it kinda sucks that the other 790gx boards showed up with free shipping, but otherwise I don't mind paying more for the Gigabyte board. From everything I read about the 780g boards, they made the best.

The Gigabyte board has one additional PCI-E x1 socket, this is the most obvious difference between the two boards.. The Gigabyte also boasts a different audio chipset (Realtek ALC889A) verses the Foxconn (Realtek ALC888GR). I couldn't find much info distinguishing the two chipsets but from what I could find I think the ALC889A may be higher end.

The LAN chipset is also different, Broadcom BCM5784 on the Foxconn vs the Realtek 8111C on the Gigabyte. Not sure how they compare.

Nice find on the Asus one from Zipzoomfly, I expect more boards to come out this week.

Still waiting for the 790FX + SB750 boards...

Same here. Why would they even release boards designed for overclocking with integrated graphics? Don't most overclockers use vid cards and not the worthless on-board vid junk? Seems silly to get a board and have an overclocked quad core and 4-8GBs of 1066 RAM and then use integrated graphics...or am I talking out of my ass? :p
