I currently have a 42'' off brand 1080P LCD TV and I plan on upgrading the screen to 50'' or hopefully 60''. I also would like to buy a new sound system for the new T.V. but thats less important. The Screen will be for Blue Ray movies.

TY

Help please :)

I'm currently looking at the new Samsung 72'' DLP

If your budget allows it, go with a Pioneer Kuro Plasma.
The PDP-5020FD (2008 model) pawns any LCD or plasma.
But be ready to pay for it!

Other interesting (but inferior) options are
1) Panasonic Plasma TH-50PZ800U or TH-50PZ850U
2) Samsung LN52A650

The Pioneer is not the top rated mainly because the price is factored in.
Most enthusiasts at avsforum believes that the Pioneer is superior.

get a sony KDS60A3000

2nded

Sears has them onsale for $1500 as discontinued. Most sites report this to be the best projection TV ever made. I've seen it's predecessor in person configured correctly and it looked absolutely phenominal. I've never seen the 60A3000 properly configured and the one at sears as a floor model was the 55" and was horribly misconfigured --- none the less I've been trying to buy one at Sears for 2 months. They say for sale but none in my AREA :(

They also sell the kds55a3000. Which is the 55 inch (otherwise identical) for $1300. The one 60a3000 quoted above is the 60"

Thirded. If you can find one of these they are incredibly badass for the money. The Pioneers are better but now cost FOUR TIMES as much, and this is easily the best rear-projection TV made in the history of mankind. The A3000 is great to build a theater room around.

Well, certainly, the 72" (or maybe the 67" led backed unit) if that is a possibility. Most people can't fit such a beast. But that size screen sure ups the whole experience to another level...

when you get that big and expensive in my opinion you might as well buy a HD projector and get a 120" screen!

http://www.projectorcentral.com/home-theater-projectors.htm

NOTE ABOVE I RECOMMENDED THE SONY KDSA603000 so it's not just that I'm a gotta have projector guy...It's just the KDSA603000 was $1500 and the TV you are talking about is double that. Projector quality is getting darn right close to the best HDTVs at this time in a dark room..........

Ebay and MSN have a live search coupon going on right now for 20% off any thing on ebay...I just bought a second projector today off ebay -- My current is a PT-L500U - I"m upgrading slightly to the AX200U -- hard to pass up at that price off!

I'd wager my picture on this projector at <$800 ebay cost will be better overall (when considering size and quality and price combined) than your 72" DLP at $2700 newegg cost. Before you naysay --- read the glowing reviews below.

http://www.projectorcentral.com/panasonic_ax200u_home_theater_projector.htm

and

http://www.projectorreviews.com/panasonic/pt-ax200u/

You'll have to admit after reading these reviews that he concept is lucrative and the price exteremely affordable!

Here's the ebay auction I bought mine from -- --

http://cgi.ebay.com/Panasonic-PT-AX...hash=item120286794866&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318

and here's the link for 20-25% off I couldn't get a 25% to come up today - though it did last week for me. I had to go with the 20% off. That being said I did have an ebay coupon that came in that was 10% off any purchase and the coupons stacked...So I got that projector for a about $750 shipped as a refurbed from a authorized reseller! Fantastic Deal!

That being said....If there's a party to be had at one of the friends house --- my house is always first pick among my friends because of the 100" wide screen and 720p projector (currently the PT-L500U)

Tell me about it, Watching a 50" looks like watching a child's television ever since I got my mitsi 65"

For DLP, you have to consider the rainbow effect. And also, does the a650 series have an adjustable iris?

http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...up=televisions&type=televisions&subtype=dlptv

I don't know, but the lower contrast ratio on the a650 suggests it doesn't have an iris. The iris is used to create the bigger dynamic contrast figure. I shut off dynamic contrast anyway, but the iris is still important if you want to even manually be able to reduce the brightness. And this can be very important, because some rear projector sets are way too bright these days.

Also, the true cost of the a650 is higher, because you'll have to replace bulbs. (And the LED backed sets should have less rainbow effect...)

I have a big, but older and bulb based DLP set I'm very happy with. I do see rainbows once in a while, but they're not a big deal to me. However, mine does have an iris, which I have clamped way down...

(Also check out AVS forum and there's more reviews out there...)

Also agree with front projection as maybe being the ultimate, but of course you've got to have the right room available for that, including more control of ambient light...(Rear projection lets us experience something kind of similar, if on a smaller scale...)

Oh...I forgot:

(I assume the review would be similar on the 67" version...)

Finally, the comments above about brightness, assume Samsung still hasn't made the bulb output itself adjustable...

The price/performance available on rear projection sets these days is quite remarkable...

Wow, thanks for the help guys :) 1 more month until I move out. Still leaning twords the 72 but I'm going to make sure that Projection isn't better for me first.

i have owned a sony kds55A3000 which is the 55" verison
Its one of the best HDTv one the market currently

i paid someone to professionally calibrate the set and they said that these sets have perfect color decoding !! the colors are perfect and he was amazed by this tv set
so amazed he came over a 2nd time for no charge just to play around with the settings with the set and see how far he could go with it. He kept asking me if i wanted to sell him the set. also these Tvs use very little electricity espcially after you have them calibrated
when they calibrate tv it requires it to be on power saving mode which uses less juice and makes the bulb last longer. So it pays to have it calibrated. Also these Tvs will last you forever all you have to do is change the bulb every 3-4 years and its like a brand new tv set !!! Very awesome TV. Your not going to get anything close to the quality of this tv unless you pay 4,000 for a pioneer plasma ! IM SERIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GAMING WITH MY PS3 LOOKS AWESOME !!! watching sports in hd is like your sitting in the stands its really awesome !

they fixed the rainbow effect on new dlps
its how well the set can decode colors
and how many options you have in the system menu
what ever tv set you buy pay the $250 to have it professional calibrated

i just want to add to about my sony KDS55A3000 you don't need a totally dark room
you just need some shade and its not as bad as you think or as bad as a DLP tv
these rear projection tvs use some diffrent technology. There is no color wheel or anything
Also the view angles are Good better than other rear projection tvs
you can stand on an angle and the picture won't degrade much at all
the colors will stay ! Also this is big if you watch sports or play games on your tv
THERE IS NO MOTION BLUR on THESE TVS !!!!!!!!!!
you can find these Tvs sets i think bestbuy has them
they will just have to have them ship it your store
