I have a e8400 now 1.35v 4.1ghz solid.

Just get the chip and find out man., EVERY chip is very different. And every OCer is different.

Done right. You'll definietly get at LEAST 4GHz. Probably 4.1GHz.

Sounds like you have a good e8400 already. Not sure how much higher you will go with an e8500

I have to agree with this. I doubt you'd be able to hit much higher than 4.1GHz on an E8500. 4.1GHz is excellent for an E8400 on air, and the chances of you getting an exceptional E8500 that can beat your current chip are pretty low.

all OC's are hit or miss

My current E8500 does 4ghz at 1.264v easy but (I'm blaming the board...) Doesn't seem to want to do much higher fully stable - it will post at 4.2 and even run stable for an hour or 2 but always errors out (thinking my board doesn't like FSB that high)

from what I'd seen from the spread sheets made by the guys over at XS 4ghz on air is kinda the common thing

I'd thought about getting another chip just for the fun of it too - good luck to ya m8

Which motherboard, RAM and Heat Sink are you using? I am planning to buy an new Rig and I am pretty much impressed with the perfomance of E6400-E6500. But still skeptical about the combination.

Currently using the P5N-e SLI board in my sig - using a TRUE and 4 gigs of Mushkin Redline DDR2-1000

currently playing with a old Pentium D 915 that seems to be defunct but i got an Asus P5k Deluxe on the way in the mail so we'll see if its better performing or not

I usually like to stay a little bit behind on the mark with Mobo's due to knowing i'm for sure getting a solid performer and not just the fist of a revision of a new chipset

my E8500 lapped with some arctic silver 5 and a lapped ultra 120 extreme with 2 80cfm 120mm fans let me take the chip to 4.6ghz.
