First of all, hello to the members of this forum. I've been reading for a while, but now I'm in a situation where I'm seeking advice and I hope you can help.

I got some strange, mostly vertical, streaks on my display. Unfortunately my P&S camera wasn't able to capture this properly, but if you have a close look at the following picture you will notice it. The most visible streaks I marked with a red dot. Move your head from side to side or move the picture for a better view.

--- update:
this picture should be better:

Go upwards from where the mouse pointer is located. (don't worry the finer grid lines - this is just an effect of taking the photo)
---

Can you 2490 users please tell me if you got the same effect on your displays? Is this a defect or a feature of this monitor?

Info:
- brand new June '08 Model Rev. 2D, calibrated with included SV
- same effect with both ColorComp switched on/off
- same effect on both DVI inputs
- effect visible on all colors
- reference monitor running in clone mode is not affected
- already tried different cables and VGA outputs

Yeah,
I can see it if i use the regular photoview program instead of seeing it inside the browser.
i think it's no way this is a Feature!

I have SV 2690 btw.

Good idea to post a photo :)
If it is what I see, then you should contact the NEC tech support.

Yeah there is definitely something funny with that photo. It seems like a strong backlight inconsistency.

NEC may recommend you run the monitor at 100% brightness for a bit of time, but I would call them up and see what they think.

My 2690 doesn't do anything like that especially with blue background.

Thank you people for having a look at the photo.
This is pretty frustrating as it took me a lot of effort, time and $$ to get it shiped overseas.

btw no 2490 users around?

Where are you from, if I may ask?
I'm from Europe, so no other choice than to buy 2690, no 2490 here.

i had 2 2490s non of them like that (is the spiral thingy you are talking about?)

No. Try your photo viewer application to watch it in fullscreen instead of using your browser.

I which I was brave enough to do what you did. But in the end, I'm happy with that 1,5" inch extra. Anyway, depending in which country you actually live, I think local NEC may be willing to give you a helping hand. They are one company after all.

This product is highly recommended almost everywhere, so it wasn't a tough decission for me. But right now I feel a bit brave
Currently I am in contact with local & US support as well as my reseller. I hope I can get a replacement without too much hassle.

I would have gone for a 2690 too. But currently I have little use for a wide gamut display. It is a sad story NEC Europe doesn't sell the little WUXi.

Thank you very much for this information visualguy. Yeah, this looks pretty familiar to me. It's not that bad here though.

The other good news is that it's free shipping both ways, I get to keep my current display until the new one gets here, and I was assured that it would be new (not a refurb) and thoroughly "screened" prior to shipping. I'm hoping to avoid dead/hot pixels this way as well, since they will be looking at it first...
I'll buy you all a virtual drink if I get the same service

Just figured I'd be the 100th person to let you know that I'm able to see it :D Hopefully everything works out for you man.
