Hey all, was looking in a computer magazine I get every month n I saw a Asus mobo in it.

The board is the ASUS Rampage Extreme, which is a X48 chipset motherboard, was wondering if any one else here is keeping on eye on this motherboard.

the link below has more pictures of the board I am talking about (Note that the site has been translated with google from Chinese to English):

Update!

Asus Site

Been keeping my eye out for it but my wallet is telling me no...I'd say over $300 when released :(

I've been keeping an eye on it for close to 6 months now. Waiting to hear of its release any day now. Hopefully Kyle gets a sample soon :)

I was just reading up on Intel chipsets and from what I read this board will only supports Crossfire :(, which sucks has I use Nvidia Graphics Cards.

well it should of come out like the maximus with tri-cross
not just two-cross.

i like the board but i know its gonna cost about 350 bux and thats almost double what i payed for my dfi x48, id never pay that just for a mobo lol

130 bucks difference from the rampage formula and only thing i can see ( though i didnt lookt o hard) was ddr2 vs ddr3. I would say at this point if you are buying a ddr3 motherboard that you would be best to wait a couple months and get one that will suppost the new chips...

The RAMPAGE FORMULA is this close to the same as the Rampage Extreme without water cooling?

last question: can i get the the extreme and use no water, just air,
thanks just wondering:cool:

i just read that the water block comes off and Asus gives you a copper fin Air tube cooler(just like you see on the other top boards) that screws on in place of the water block!
then i went to newegg and saw this baby and clicked on it BAM
$399. $444 out the door.

now i have to check out DDR3 Corsair or Ocz
:D

im glad people have money to waste :p wiyth the new stuff coming out you will have ram for it.. but nothign else :p

yup yup i got ocz lifetime warrenty thats bad ass.corsair is only for i think 5 years.

I was waiting for this board to come out and basically said hell with it because I don't need what it has so I went to order a Rampage Formula instead and saw that the RE was released and lost a night of sleep thinking about it.

I decided to just go with the Formula becasue for me, and I say that strongly, for me I don't need the RE. I am going to OC but the extra cost for the board and then DDR3 was just pointless. Don't get me wrong, The hact that the thing looks like it's about to transform into Optimus Prime almost had me but I though better of it. I have a 4870 x2 coming with the Formula and have an E8400 sitting arounf so I am good.

Unless you are going to OC the hell out of the RE and have the money, it's way overkill. I figure I will not be to far behind it with the Formula which will still last me plenty long into the Nehalem era when prices for those become more in line what we have now.

Absolutely agree, the RE is an overclocker's dream board. It has posted extremely high fsb numbers and is visually stunning as well. But for $400 + DDR3 + the fact that nehalem is out in a few months, its a lot to swallow.

i myself was going to order the one your getting, untill on this site they said its here!! at newegg....then I got it.
I also plan on your video card 4870x1 to get......Im tired of my 8800GTX evga

the DDR3 memory Im thinking of getting is the:OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Intel® Extreme Edition
Im sure this will do the Trick.
I will know for sure when (sdgserv) plugs everything in........

That's what I'd say also.

That board is very nice, but probably cost more then a used car. My 680i SLi bard will do me just fine.:)

Eagle, if you haven't done so, browse through this thread on Xtreme.

One of the things that kept me from getting RE was this thread. It doesn't say the board is bad but due to the BIOS being very young there are a lot of quirks some of these guys are working through. Main thing to look for in that thread is for what RAM seems to work best. I didn't see a clear brand that was working best so I went through the RF thread over there and saw much better results in terms of bugs and what not all though the RF is a bit more mature. If I was going to buy in October or November or something I would either have gone with a Nehalem setup or the RE because of by then the BIOS would probably be a bit better on it.

Besides, I anticipate the RF I am getting will end up being my wifes system sometime next year which at that point the Nehalems and X58's should be more mainstream and mature.

Got to love the fact my Wife games, she gets my hand me down PC's :D:D

Why would anyone spend that kind of money on a 775 board now?

I can justify new 775 stuff for under $200. But for $400? I'd just rather wait for x58.

Was having a hard time trying to find the nb waterblock for my maximus formula and was thinking.."damn, I shoulda spent the extra $130 for the x48 version", but looks like swiftech is coming out with one that fits perfectly and looks far better (to me) then the stock asus and will probably outcool it.

Hell ya, For gaming screw the Nehalems, they wont offer a huge performace jump, but for benchmarking there going to be gods.

Plus when they come out, all the 775 CPUs and mobos should get cheaper, so i can get some of the best parts from 775(maybe even a Core 2 Extreme):)
