On install of Ubuntu Desktop and Server, I've even tried Mint.

I end up with the follow error.

I turn on my PC bios check loads etc etc then......... time for Linux, but it just goes.....

GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB

Down the whole screen, I have no idea. It did it will all of the linux distros above. Fedora 9 installed fine, but these... I just don't get it!

Help would be appreciated.

Also, if I download Debian... do I need all four discs?

First I'm going to try Suse and see if it passes.

That can happen when grub isn't correctly installed to a VBR. Boot a LiveCD and start a grub shell. Manually install grub with the correct arguments to the root and setup commands:
Code:
find /boot/grub/stage1
root (whatever find told you)
setup (hd0 or hd1 or hd2... whichever drive was regurgitated by that find command)

Alright, thank you. I will try this.

you might try FreeBSD too ( suggestion because of the
persuasive linux >> freebsd thread in the freebsd-questions
mailing list this past week). Unless you already know
the paths etc in linux and are in a hurry.

Looked at Free BSD. I've tried it once before. I gave up on the Ubuntu based Linux and installed SUSE 11.0 , that ran fine and the installer was quite easy.
