What Are All You 8800GT Owners Doing?

Heh, Warhead will have another config beyond very high which we wont be able to run :)

I'm upgrading to a 4870, but only because I have an X38 mobo, and run at 1900 x 1200. If I was at any lower resolution I wouldn't bother.

I'm perfectly fine with my GT's performance. Not upgrading until something ( game) that's worth it comes along.

Hmm well it seems that everyone is trading up their 8800gt's for the 4850. Personally I can't stand ATI's partners. Sapphire was terrible to deal with and no partner seems to match the quality of eVGA and BFG,

Since I can probably sell my 8800GT for around $100, I'm tempted to get the 9800GTX since it has dropped to about $199 but the 4850 seems to hover around this price as well.

Anyone know where to get the 9800GTX+ and how much it will be selling for since it is supposed to compete with the 4850 IIRC.

I got my 8800GTS G92 1st week of june, I will probably step it up since I have EVGA after I come back from the Philippines, leaving the 7th, I might step up to a GTX 280 or get the 4870x2 ultra instead since its only $399 from what I've read. But I don't know yet I'd have to wait and see some benchmarks first.

I'm not an 8800GT owner, I have a release day eVGA 8800GTX. It was quite possibly the best video card investment I have ever made. That said, I doubt I will be upgrading any time soon. The 8800GTX performs well enough at 1920x1080, and I'm getting deployed next spring. So, for me, there is no point in upgrading nine months before I can't use the system for a year. I'll upgrade Spring/Summer 2010. This will be the longest I have ever gone between upgrades. Almost four years.

I have a 8800GT and I tried the 4850 when it first came out. I did all sorts of tests with the two cards. And in the end the 4850 was only about 3-5 fps faster than my GT. But it ran 20 hotter and it was louder. I would like to go Ati this round just to try something different but the 4850 just doesn't warrant an upgrade from a GT. But the 4870 is a whole different ballgame, that cards looks like it would stomp a GT in everything at any resoultion. I might grab one of these soon. I game at 1680x1050 and I like lots of AA and AF and the game I play the most the GT handles perfect, BF2. But I recently orderd Stalker and Obilivion and from what I've heard if I run with max settings in those games, they'll bring my GT to its knees fast.

 are you sure it was 4850 :D well 4850 is the reason why nvidia makes new 9800gtx's so may be you got special edition of gt don't know but thats impossible

Ha that's pretty much what everyone has said about my GT. I think its a mix of things, cpu, memory gpu etc If you have a fine balance of all 3 they you see the absolute best out of your system including your video card. My system I guess is just very well balanced...

my sisters old Asus Geforce 7900 plays wow at max 60fps at 1280x1024. You wont see much different in wow anyways. If you want some real thing go for Geforce 200 series cards or Radeon 4870

BTW I am using 2x Geforce 8800 Ultra SLI and works perfect, I can play all my favourite and new titles at 1920x1600 4xAA resolution , at top FPS. Sill wait till nvidida and ati comes out with new stuff by XMAS.

I wish nvidia would come out with a 9800GT. Something that is like the 8800GT, single slot single power connector. But say more shaders, like 128 at least and a higher core and memory and priced around $200-220 I would pick one of those up in a second. And before you say it, yes I know the 4850 is that card. But it isn't because I tried it and tested against my GT and it beat it by only a few fps so that not worth it. A 9800GT that gets 10-15 fps more is more like it :) I suppose I could get the 9800GTX+ when that comes out will see..

10 - 15fps doesnt mean much without knowing your current fps.
10 or 15% faster does though.

ie if you currently get 30fps, 10 to 15fps extra is 33% to 50% faster.
but if you currently get 60fps, the improvement is halved.

Its hard to understand what you mean unless you give more info.

I moved my 8800GT to my LAN box as my sig indicates. I've upgraded to a 4870 on my main machine. Depending on the results of the 4870x2, my LAN box may be receiving the 4870 and the 8800GT may be put up for sale.

I am going to stay with mine for a little while until I see how it works on my new monitor that is coming.

I def. plan upgrading to either 4870 or GTX 260 once a little bit under the 300 mark as I think the 4850 wouldn't be a substantial upgrade.

The 8800GT has probably been the best video card upgrade I've done both performance wish and money wise. It seems that if you game at 1680x1050 or below the GT still is very very good with any game. You can get the GT for about $140 now which is a steal.

8800gt is still running the games i play often quiet well (tf2 and cod4) so no need to ugprade.. though some aa on cod4 would be nice

I'm looking at buying a second 8800GT. I was planning on buying a newer card but things have come up and I don't think it would be wise to spend too much in my current position in life.

^ There are people here that update their systems every 3 months, to whom the 8800GT seems about as ancient as a Pentium II processor.

The fact is though, if you are happy with your performance, there's really no need to upgrade right now unless you're the type of person that must play Crysis at max settings with 16xAA and 60fps.

I'm staying put for now. I'm actually RMAing my card back to XFX on monday because I have to decrease the memory clock by 10mhz for it to be stable. Who knows, maybe they'll upgrade me to a 9800GTX... Not holding my breath on that though.

Owner of a factory overclocked Gigabyte 8800GT. It handles well in the resolution i play (1680 x 1050)..however the new Ati's are so temping...i think i'll wait to see a gt200 die shrink like they did with 8800GTX -->8800GT.Almost same performance at ridiculously lower price! Then will will have a REAL price war! HD4870 X2 at 250 euros and GT280+, GT277.5 (or anyhow they decide to call the gt200 die shrink), at 200 euros:D!!

I am keeping mine since I got it 2 months ago.It is a really good card and I see no reason to sell it for $100 and then upgrade.I need to get a bigger monitor before I worry about a new video card since my cpu isn't the best.I only play at 1280x768 now I need to go up to 1680x1050 at least to take the bottleneck off of my cpu

Geting a 4870x2 as soon its out.
the 8800gt goes into second rig.

Since I will upp my display to 1920+ since my old 1600+ died I just want some red coloring.
;)

I am keeping my 8800GT in this rig for now ... but the money I would put toward the 4870 ... Is going to memory (having problems :( )

Right now a 9800GX2 or a 280 is looking good because I will not SLI....

And the the new atis do not excel where I need them to.

I am selling mine on ebay right now with the accelero s1 I installed and a 8500gt for future physx. Upgraded to 2x 4850.

I'm not upgrading. There aren't any games on the horizon or out now that would make it worth it to upgrade.

Have the Gigabyte 8800GT & Athlon 64 5000+ BE @ 3200, Runs Stalker great at 1280x1024, maxed settings except AA. Stalker uses deferred lighting and when dynamic lighting is enabled, AA will not work. Static lighting looks like ass in comparison. Use the Float 32 lighting mod, makes a big difference in lighting quality. Tried 1600x1200, was a bit choppy in places, but well playable. Have just tried the "Gigabyte gamer hud" program, upped the gpu vcore to 1.2v and now running at 750, 1800, 950. Does 1000 memory fine, but I'm just chicken because there are no ram sinks. Haven't tried to push it farther, this is fine for me. Will have to try 1600x1200 again, see if it runs any better. Amazing game, sadly, I'm almost at the end. As for Oblivion, Its on my play list, haven't reinstalled it since getting the 8800GT, used to play it with a X850XT, so I'm sure I'll see a world of difference.

Been playing Gears of War and Bioshock as well, runs great at 1600x1200, max graphics, again no AA due to deferred lighting. (I'm running XP)

Yeah I guess I'm on a wait and see approach. Stalker comes this week so I will first try it with max settings and no AA but I still want 16xAF HQ if the GT runs it good, then I'll keep it

I'm running at 1920x1200 with my 8800GT and it's doing fine. No reason to upgrade.

The 8800 GT is still a fine card, and can play today's games with good eye candy.

No need to toss it aside, unless you have lots of money burning a hole in your pocket.

What is the benefit of having dual 8800 GT cards linked on a SLI board?
Does this beat one of these newer cards?

I had 8800GT SLI before switching to a GTX 280. Average and maximum framerates for the two, at least without AA, were comparable at 1080p, but, in minimum fps, the 280 smoked the SLI setup. (I also had problems with the 8800GT SLI setup microstuttering, but not everyone is sensitive to that.)

im definitely going to keep my 8800gt. i also thought about upgrading but there really isnt any card within the sweetspot that will give a big enough performance gain to justify the money. quite honestly if you have an sli board id buy another 8800gt if you really wanted an improvement. other than that i would wait.....nvidia really needs to get their shit together. the whole 9XXXX series cards pretty much sucked monkey balls and the 280 is way overpriced. most of us will probly wait, and that will undoubtedly mean there will be a different format of gpu/mb/processor combos to upgrade to when that time comes.

Even though I've got the older 8800gts I'll throw my 2 cents in - close enough eh? ;)

While I can probably afford the 4850 or the 260, I don't like the power draw or heat coming off these cards. I'm going to wait until the die shrink in the upcoming months to make my decision.

Keeping my 8800GT, partly because it was something I won from a nVidia Geforce LAN, and also, until I get new monitor, I'm not seeing a big benefit from a stronger card.

I'm a sucker for the "close to high end performance without the high end power demands or giant blower HSF" cards. I just got an 8800GT recently and I will probably hang on to it for a while.
