GTX 260/280 price cuts HAVE COME!

I have two that just shipped from Newegg... I'm going to live chat them tomorrow (if they're open) or Monday and demand a $150 refund per card, because I haven't even received them yet and they've dropped quite a bit.

from what i have seen/heard, they will take care of you.

This is nothing compared to the 30% price cut on NVidia's stock yesterday.

Ask for it, don't demand it. They don't owe you anything.

I was one of those persons and I don't feel bad at all. Why? Because this ALWAYS HAPPENS!!!!

I don't feel bad for anyone. This happens with every new CPU and video card. People know the prices drop after a few weeks/months.

Oh stop it. Like madgun said, this happened after a few days, not weeks or months. This was not normal and I stick by my original post.

newegg will most likely help you out with this but i think its sad that you use the word "demand"

youre not entitled to neweggs great customer service, i guess all their courtesy and hard work have spoiled some of us:rolleyes:

Anyone positive that the msi rebate works at newegg (since they are offering free shipping over zzf)?

Much love for competition, without AMD back in the game Nvidia would have had no need to cut prices.

This is great news for buyers of either company.

gtx 280 will own two 8800gt cards, especially at the higher rez of your 28inch.

No, it doesn't.

I just did a quick check on Anandtech's recent radeon article and it does have the 8800GT SLI in the graphs at high res (1920x1200) for a number of the games.

well then, how about gtx 260 in sli vs 8800gt in sli?

if you look at the [H]'s review, which uses actual gameplay vs. canned benches, it shows the gtx 280 to be a nicer experience than both a 9800gx2 and a 9800gtx sli setup. it will be especially nicer when you are using AA at higher rez as the 512mb per card on the 8800's with 256bit buffer will choke your fps.

Yes, it does. Regardless of what any graphs/canned benchmarks say, my GTX280 spanks my 8800gts 512 sli setup. At 1680x1050 they can be pretty comparable in many games but with the GTX280 still being noticeably better in graphical powerhouse DX10 games. However, at 1920X1200 there is no comparison. A few games are similar, but the sli setup gets bogged down in way too many games whereas it's impossible to phase the GTX280 and it just blows through whatever is thrown at it.

A good example would be GRID, which chugs on the SLI setup at times when using the in-car view, when at the start of the race and the cars are bunched up, or sometimes just randomly at some parts of some tracks. whereas the gtx280 is silky the entire way.

cool, it's nice to be corrected. Thanks.

This is awesome. I paid $560 for my 8800GTX four months after release. Thanks for delivering, ATI!

As enticing as the 280 at this price sounds, I still think it would be wise to wait for the 4870x2... It'll be out in 30~ days, has been said to be 80% faster than the 4870 and will only be $499. Should be a 280 killer easily! And the 30 days will pass before you know it :)

Expect nVidia to cut prices to the point where if the 4870x2 is that price and performance level to get the GTX 280/260 in line. You could see $300 280's assuming a pair of 280's could out perform a 4870x2, which in most cases my guess is that it would.

why get a 280 over the 9800gx2 unless you're running at a really high res where the extra memory comes into play?

From the benchmarks I've looked at the 9800gx2 is generally a better card in terms of fps and it's quite cheaper too.

Time always passes by my friend and one can save a lot by controlling his/her impulsive nature. So it's a decent bit of thinking on your part.

I'm admittedly pissed. I paid $120 for my step up and it just shipped TODAY. I have sent them an email asking them to kindly refund me the difference since my step up wasn't completed until after the price change.

Pretty sure they go by the MSRP, which hasn't changed.

I'm quite sure they'll want to maintain a good price advantage despite their great performance, and they certainly have the room to in manufacturing costs with their small chip. I smell $260 or less 4870s incoming soon.

Most likely when the 1GB and x2 comes out. right now most places are selling them at or really close to MSRP just because they are so new to market.

also, will one of these fit in a antec twelve hundred case?

I did a little research and called Antec, they said it'll fit with drives in the drive bays but it'll be really really tight. If you don't have drives in the bays right behind the card you should be fine.
