I am switching to a Rampage Formula from an Evga 680 ia1 ( never did use Sli) and I know I will have to reninstall windows. I have done this a lot but this time I have a lot of files and pics and stuff to transfer and I was just wondering what the best way to transfer everything is. I will be using the same 8800 gtx card and qx6700 cpu. The os is 64 bit windows Vista. I have also not installed the service pack. Is that a worthy upgrade?

Define "transfer everything."

Do you mean downloaded music/video, settings, installer files, saved games.....?

Having a second (or third, or fourth) hard drive is the easiest solution.

Either another hard drive in the system, an external drive, maybe a large usb drive. This really all depends on how much data you have.

Easist way is to buy a spare hard drive for about 50-150 bucks and you can use it in the future. You can burn them to DVD with something like NERO or something else if you have a cd burner. Uploading is useless unless you have alot of storage space.

Yhanks. I don't keep a whole lot of stuff on my drive so I will probably burn them to dvd.

why do you have to reinstall windows? I've switched out boards before and not had to reinstall OS, maybe a few drivers.

I just figured since going from an Invidia chipset to an Intel one it would be best to do a clean install.

Not necessary. I went from a Striker Extreme (680i) to a Rampage Formula and all I did was run a tool like Driver Sweeper (http://phyxion.net/driver-sweeper.html) to get rid of all drivers. If you're setting up a RAID array on your new mainboard, then you'll have to reinstall everything.
