Due to a hardware change. There was no hardware change. In fact, there wasn't even a software change. It reactivated without issue but WTF is going on? Does it do this periodically just for S&G's?

I've been running Ultimate since launch on my e1505, and it hasn't asked to reactivate, ever.

I read in some forum windows deactivates sometimes even with a videocard driver change...odd if you ask me considering i exchanged cards from ati to nvidia and its still activated

^^^ I had WPA pull this shit on me when I just upgrading my sister's video card DRIVER!

@OP: I guess the only reason was that there was some "hiccup" with the activation status of Windows. I've had that happen to me twice on my computer, both instances when I didn't modify hardware or software. Although it makes me wonder if some asschuro out there is using a keygen and is ending up generating a key identical to mine, therefore when he activates his copy, I get deactivated. Just throwing that idea out there.

If this becomes a wide spread problem, I'd hate to be the poor sucker in India who mans the MS support line.

Did you have the SP1 beta installed? It just expired; uninstall the beta and install the full SP1 if that's the case.

Vista activation is really sensitive to hard drive controller changes too. I switched my second sata controller (not the boot controller) from legacy to raid and had to call in to reactivate it. Really annoying.

Geez Kyle, who pissed in your wheaties????

I'll take my questions to Anandtech from now on.

This has happened twice with my XP. Pain in the butt since I have to call in to reactivate now, but meh, rather call in than get a new copy.

You guys are missing Kyles point and the perspective.

In the opening post of this thread, OP states "It reactivated without issue but WTF is going on?". Now to me, that can be construed as a little more then "Hey guys, my Vista asked me to reactivate. I made no changes. Anyone experience this?"

So of course it's going to come across as bitching. And taking it further, bitching about a simple re-activation is really not a big deal. It's reminiscent of flying off the handle because there's a little too much ketchup on your cheeseburger.

And now to keep this thread on topic, I have never experienced this re-activation issue.

No point missed as far as I'm concerned. Windows asking to be reactivated when nothing has changed is an ANOMALY, PERIOD !!!!!! I came her to see if anyone else had experienced this and if there was a logical explanation for this ANOMALY !!! I wasn't bitching or complaining, just looking for answers. Sorry I looked in the wrong place.

It is an anomaly. Sometimes certain windows updates can cause a reactivation request, depending on your hardware configuration. Just reactivate and you are good to go. I experienced this bug once pre SP1 right after I did a windows update, I've never had it happen again.

My son's Vista32 rig has asked to reactivate three times over a 2-3 month period. Due to video card driver changes...no problem, it took every time, just a click or two. Wow, a whole 5 seconds. No worries.

My Vista64 has not asked for reactivation due to vid card driver changes....oh well :p

If you are running a legal copy, stop worrying :D

I have swapped out 4 video cards 1800XL to 1950Pro to a 3870 and now to a 4870 and no reactivation yet and I am on OEM ultimate.

Just want to throw out there that this could be a sign of overclock instability, if nothing else has changed since then.

True, I've seen this twice. Bad overclock, and updating Intel AHCI drivers. Not a major issue if you can activate online. I have had to spend 45 minutes on the phone for issues such as this. Read off your serial, have the automated system transfer you to a representative, get disconnected, repeat. I think they have somewhat improved their system since then, however.
