first off i have this camera here, i know its not a dslr but hey it was free

and i was wondering if picking up this lens would be worth the cost

also I was wondering if there were any other lenses on the market that would fit my camera.

Eventually i would like to get a dslr and get into photography as a hobby more

any advice would be wonderful

How soon would you like to get a DSLR? If you plan on getting one right around the corner, I'd say hold off on this lens, more money for a DSLR = nicer stuff. But that's just my opinion.

Your camera is already a 12x zoom....which I'd imagine the telephoto length would already be around 400mm or so. Do you really need to boost it up to 600mm?

As far as moving to dslr...well, the hardware gets bigger really quick =). But I'll pick the image quality over the size.

i was waiting on a bonus check to get a d60 But automotive failures left me short on cash :p

there are two pictures of my dogs there

this is why i am consulting people who know more about this than i do :p is it going to be worth my $ to pick this lens up?

skip the lens, and invest that $150 in getting a D80 instead of a D60.

the rumor has it, the D80 will be phased out by the end of the year. its replacement is due "any day now"... but, if you have the cash now then buy D80 and don't play the waiting game. otherwise, wait a month or two 'til you get all your money aside, and perhaps by then Nikon will release the replacement. this should drive the D80's prices down a little. good luck.
