So i wanted to make a second thread off of the gameplay / no spoilers thread so i could talk about stuff that is spoilarz. Someone said you can defeat the bosses without killing them. What's up with that? Is there some kind of thing to do while they are in human form? I'm starting to play through it for my second time and moved up to hard difficulty.

i just shot them with the anesthesia shots. i never killed any of them, unless if you kill them with the supressor you see something else. when i shot them with the anesthesia shots, they curl up into a ball and drebbin says you set them free. i'm not sure if that happens too if you killem.

Ah good, a thread to post including spoilers! I'll be the first to drop a plot bomb.

I also killed them with the anesthesia shots. I actually didn't feel right killing the first one, then I decided to be consistent. To be honest, I really wanted to blow that baby killing bitches head off. That's what playing again is for though!

I just finished Act 4.

I can't remember the last time something in a video game actually surprised the shit out of me like actually piloting a Metal Gear and then a duel of Metal Gears. It was totally unexpected that I would end up piloting one. I thought Otacon was just bringing it online to destroy some gekkos.

"Hi, I'm Solid Snake and I destroy Metal Gears... with Metal Gears... apparently."

So wait you could put the bosses to sleep with that one gun and just shoot at them when they are down? I just started Act 3, meaning the only boss I beat is Laughing Octopus. Even though she wasnt that bad, kinda annoying how she could camo herself in and jump through windows, run over the roof and then come through another window. Would of just put her ass to sleep then if I knew that would of worked.

No, you still have to fight out the fight even if you use the non-lethal ammo, bosses dont fall asleep like the other enemies, its mostly a tactic for if you are trying to beat the game without killing anyone.

yeah in their beast form you had to run and gun but you could use the anesthesia shots to put them out when they were in they beauty form. i did that to vamp so i could cqc him. its faster if your able to peg him in the back. one shot takes his stamina down 3/4.

You get special face paint when you beat them with tranqs. Just like in MGS3 where you would get their camo if you didnt kill them.

Ah okay. I thought you got those either way, good to know there was some reason I was doing it.

Crying Wolf actually looks a lot like a coworker. It's kind of disturbing to equip it, or any of them on Snake's body for that matter. :p

see, i killed all of the beauties with normal guns. It still says like, gg for killing them snake, they needed to be freed. But i'll have to try the tranq thing next play-through. and i actually had to go online and search some forums to figure out how to kill vamp. I didn't know it was possible to equip an item like the syringe and do something to an enemy with it. I knew i had it in my inventory but i was just not thinking that way. I shot him in the head with tranq gun and then CQC slit his throat as he was standing back up, about 50 times. He keeps saying "you can't kill me as long as these nanomachines are in my blood" so i thought maybe by continually slitting his throat it would bleed him out :p

How did you guys beat the beauty and the beast in the third act. The one that flies and bombs that tower. I just cant seem to kill the bitch. Problem is I have no rations left and only one noodles left for health. Any soft spots on her or anything?

the trick is to hide in the stairs between the top floor and second. she can't hit you there and she'll get confused where you are. she's usually the only one flying with no lights coming from her. she'll hover around and i just machine gunned her. rinse and repeat. it took me a while to kill her. you could try using a rocket launcher (i didn't even know you could till i saw the video in the making of mgs4).

btw jonnyk, do the beauty die in a diff way when you killed them? i'm just curious. do they still ball up in the end or do they just die?

ditto, oh and listen to her. when she says "ARGGG IM OVERHEATING!!!" watch where she goes, she'll land and gives you a chance to snipe her.

I killed raven with the shotgun and the shotgun attachment for the M4.

#1 gun has to be the mk22.. runner up is probably P90.

I just beat it not too long ago and i really do have to say its a good conclusion to snake. Im glad he didnt have to kill himself. If they are gonna make a new MGS... its probably gonna be with that kid controlling the MKIII at the end or something.. cant be raiden.

When they died when i killed them they would scream and then curl up into a little ball and their suit turned to look like ashes or something.

also during the psycho mantis scene i thought it was really funny how he tried to read your save data and stuff but couldn't because there was no memory card. To those of you that have a dual shock 3, what happened when he tried to move the controller? I was just using a normal sixaxis that came with the original PS3, and he instructed me to lay the controller flat and he would move it with his mind. Then after nothing happened he was like WHATTT NO RUMBLE CONTROLLER EITHER! and said some stuff and then dissapeared lol

I didn't set my controller down thinking it was another trick being played on the player. He moves the controller left and right by having one side rumble then the other (I'm curious if this works) and then all of the controller.

Just finished Act 4 last evening and things are looking great.
Was completely shocked when I got to drive the Metal Gear and even more so when it was MG v. MG. Though the one odd thing, does anyone think the three arm crawling things remind anyone of HL? They crawl around and when you get near them they attach to you, at the waist though, just seemed similar.

Since I have not finished, the whole Colonel/Rose thing just seems weird to me, am I alone on this? Maybe something happens later, will have to wait an see.

Seemed odd to me also but it makes sense latter.

Ok I could use some help here. I defeated Laughing Octupus and I'm currently on the mountain trail stage. I wasn't able to properly follow the tracks (despite the advice given by Raiden) I scoured the entire area, even went back to the lab, how do I get pass this?

Big boss difficulty is a PITA

just equip the night vision and follow all the tracks you can find. The end of the tracks is like a doughnut shaped area i think, with a rock formation in the middle with grassy area in a circle around it and it goes down to a different area with militia men fighting, if i remember right but i dunno.

Much appreciated, I'll try it out

Has anyone else noticed you can perform a crotch grab when frisking someone?

yeah, instant knockout lol. so if the beauty is killed normally they turn to ash like the frogs, i see. if you knock them out they just stay curled.

yeah like jonnyk said, follow the steps with the night vision. becareful of ambushes, some frogs and pmcs hide behind trees and in bushes. if you see single foot steps branching off, then you know they are hiding close by.

you know im curious how did snake get the second strain of foxdie. couldn't be from naomi could it?

Drebin gave it to him in the APC. Well at least that's what they hinted but never fleshed out throughout the rest of the game. It makes sense to me since Drebin was employed by the Patriots.

**END GAME SPOILERS**

Why did Ocelot have to fool the SOP system by hypnotizing himself to be Liquid? Why couldn't he carry out destroying the Patriots as Ocelot?

It explained it all at the end. There was so much information there though i don't remember the exact reason why he wanted to turn himself into liquid. It had something to do with needing to be a big boss clone in order to get into the AI maybe?

supposedly with only half of the genes it wasn't enough to enter sop, so they needed big bosses genes to fully enter sop and take control. thats why liquids always after his body. but you find out later that the body was just solidus and liquids corpses meshed together but solidus was a perfect clone unlike solid and liquid. thats why his genes was able to get sop and why solidus was able to get arsenal gear with gw in it. you find out ocelot acted like a doppleganger also to have snake come in and kill take out the patriots. it was all a plan to have snake involved also.

The last 15 hours of the game are so fucking bad ass in every way fathomable it's completely unbelievable what they are able to do with video games now. I have virtually no words that can describe it because it would take a 10,000 page dictionary to come up with the terms that are worthy of describing MGS 4.

IF YOU DO NOT OWN A PS3 THIS GAME SINGLE HANDEDLY IS WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY AND MORE. I CANT BELIEVE THEY DID NOT CHARGE $100 OR MORE FOR IT

I just beat the game, and holy hell what a great game, but it made me sad at the end.

I'm hopelessly optimistic though, I don't care what Kojima says now, Snake will never die!

Just beat the game about ten minutes ago myself. I have some (slight, forgivable) disappointments but overall the game was bas ass, and well worth the price of admission (had to buy a PS3). It is bittersweet. I played MGS 1 on the PS1 and got hooked. I remember waiting for MGS 2, watching all the trailers, and then finally playing it. Same for MGS 3 amd 4. And now it is over. :(

My favorite part had to be piloting Metal Gear Rex, that was simply amazing. I also loved revisiting Shadow Moses island. And the final fistfight with liquid was great too.

Who knows what the future holds. Maybe Kojima will make a Zone of the Enders game for the PS3. Either way you are right damonposey, Snake will never die.

Although I dont own this game or a ps3 I did watch the entire cut scenes from start to end ( thanks to a very generous user) which was insanely looooong but very entertaining. The battles between raiden and vamp were awsome.

Just completed the game.
Now, I have been playing games for a long time now(30 soon) and been through the generation of video games and I have my favorites just like the rest of you. The first mario game as a 5 year old, TMNT on nintendo, the first Zelda, Resident Evil 1, Final Fantasy Vll and then Metal Gear Solid! These are the games that satt the standard for video games for me! These were some of the games that made other games that came after all the better. Today, we are spoiled. We get great games every year, so its even harder today to make a big.."Impact" on gamers that have been around for most of the video game industrys growth into everybodys homes.
I do of course have other favorites such as gears, mass effect, GOW, Balders Gate, Pes, Fifa, KOTOR and the other MGS and Final Fantasy games. So what do I think about MGS4? Now, this is my opinion with I base on what feelings the game gave me from begining to end. As with gameplay, graphics, story, voice acting, begining, ending and lenght. I think its ONE OF THE GREATEST GAMES EVER MADE!!!
The graphics are stunning, story like no other! Best lead character in modern video game, fantastic cut-scenes(though a bit long for most people-NOT for me, cause this is one of the many strong points of the game and they do it better than anybody else. If you want an all out action game you got plenty to choose from. MGS is different there and give you a movie/game experince like no other! You could skip the cut-scenes anyway)
Gameplay if perfect. Whatever you want to do, you can easely do them. With the option of rolling on the ground, change from laying on you back or front, first person view shooting, over the shoulder, running, crawling, gadgets, weapons to name a "few"- Its all there! Like the Drebin points system and I also love how they really make you feel how old and sick Snake is. How you need to take care of your psych etc and how it effect your game.
Boss battles are one of the best parts of the game, and one of the best I have ever had in a game. Many other games have this as well, and just as great but when you add all the other stuff from MGS, it just makes all the better! And the last fight- OMG Loved it!

I have not tried MGO yet as I am waiting for the MGS bluetooth headset sometime this week so I am looking forward to having a go at it.
So if you ever liked the previous MGS games you must have this game, if you didn`t like the MGS series then its not your type of game I guess..
So its hard to think that this is the last MGS game, at least with Hideo leading the front. I do hope and pray we will get more MGS in the future and that it wont be something way different and stupid..
Anyway, I give MGS4 10/10!! NO Doubt!

I played this game once and it was enough for me. Awesome game that deserves a 10/10. However this game was not enough to keep owning a PS3.

lol you never know he might have a protege or something

I'm calling it now. I don't care if Johnny was apparently a soldier in the first mgs game, that guy looks like Snake. I think he's a clone

They do explain that, it has to do with the nanomachines and such.

It has to do with him being a wuss under pressure because he doesn't have nanomachines.

Snake would never be a wuss like that, even without nanomachines.

Yep, I did not want to explain to much, but I forgot this thread can have spoilers in it.

oh yeah i know he was a wuss lol. i meant it as a joke where netrat said he was a possible clone. i was wondering what went wrong during the cloning process for him to have the stomach problems. the stomach issue gene or something heh.

If Anyone Can Tell Me , How Many Acts Are In This Game... I'm On Act 4 & About 11 Hours Into The Game
