SOYO 24" DYLM24D6 Official Thread

You can open it fairly easy (lay it down on a towel and pull all the screws, then pop the back off with a flathead screwdriver) and just pull the little clips for the speakers, if they continue to buzz. Of course, this is sure to void any warranty you might have, so... fair warning.

I muted the speakers but it still buzzes. The buzz changes frequency as I turn up and down the brightness but not the contrast. Pretty wierd. I was pretty tempted to pop it open and see if I can fix it or zero in on the source of the buzz but since I can still warranty it, its going back. I'm just gonna send it back and hope I get a good one in return (MVA stylie!).

This is in the Officemax circular again for $280 but in store only. Should I do it? I also want to get an hdmi to dvi cable and try to use it as a tv. Is there away to tell if its tn or mva by looking at the box?

Posted another thread about the 22" for $199.

For the buzzing sound of the speakers, mine had it too, I eliminated it by reducing the volume to 0 in the volume menu, not by simply muting it (any value in the menu less than 10 eliminated it completely for me, but I dropped it to 0 for good measure).

To above post, it will be MVA if the response time on the box is 6ms, as the TN panel (like mine) is 3ms.
My TN really isnt that bad, of course not at the level of an MVA panel, but for the most part its pretty good, especially for gaming, since I game 90% on my PC and Photoshop/science stuff on it 10% of the time, I figured for the $190 I paid for mine (new on local CL) it was well worth it.

My prob is I live in Manhattan and getting to an Officemax store is a pain in the.... I am almost thinking of just buying the 22" with a $30 off coupon. Are those def TNs?

Yup.
If they weren't TN and were something better like a *VA panel, Slick Deals people and the Displays forum here would be blowing up about what an amazing deal it is for this screen/panel at this price.

My father's *MVA panel is frequently going black for no reason. It's completely random and is only black for about a second or less. Any ideas?

Check the power cord for a good seating at the back of the monitor.
I saw somewhere online that some people who had that problem replaced the power cord that came with the monitor for a different power cord.
If those dont work, you may have to send it back.

Ok, for all of you that have the screen turn black after various intervals of use and are pretty certain it is an overheating issue, I MIGHT have a solution for you. My screen was having the same issue so I was going to call Soyo for an RMA. I started reading the stories of people sending in their MVA panels and getting back a TN and that scared me so I figured what the hell I could at least poke around a little. I took the back off to see what I could see and I was planning on running it like that just to see if the problem went away. When I got it opened I noticed there was a piece of aluminum tape covering almost all of the tiny holes for ventilation of the "brains" of the panel. There are several of these pieces of tape holding various wires back etc. but this particular one was on the top of the square bump that contains the "brains". It immediately screamed to me that heat was getting trapped in there especially since it was the top holes that were blocked and the heat could not rise for natural ventilation. I didn't rip the tape out but I just gently peeled it back out of the way so that it could be put back if this did not work and I needed to send it in. I am happy to report that I have been running for at least 4 hours now and have not had a single black screen. Before this "fix" I was lucky to get 30-45 minutes before it blacked out even with a fan blowing directly on the back. I can pop it back open and take some pics if people really need me to, but it is very easy to see once you get it open. I am keeping my fingers crossed and I hope this can help some others as well.

Finally here, looks beautiful, no dead pixels and appears to be a mva panel.

These are $279.99 at Office Max THIS WEEK. I bought two-what a freaking steal! Amazing screen.

$262 I get, but for $219 it had to be refurb. Homey don't do refurbs on monitors-EVER. baaaaad idea.

Too many refurbs dying on this model-no thanks. And if you bought the other for $262, it means you used a $40 off coupon and bought it blind, shipped. I much prefer to be able to pick the box I want, be able to take it howm and return or exchange it in minutes. That is exactly what happend with the 1st one I bought-one stupid bad dead pixel in a bad spot. Literally 14 minutes later, I had it exchanged and the replacement plugged in and spotless. Anyway, glad you are happy with yours-I sure am with mine! Such a deal!

I might be retiring my 2nd 24" Soyo, I'm selling my HD Camera so having 2 monitors is kinda unnecessary (As I won't be editing HD footage anymore), infact I have it turned off most of the time...

I'm debating if I should put it back in the box for storage and keep it for a while or sell it and buy a "better" SIPS or MVA monitor in a year or so when I get back into HD video editing...

Maybe sell both of my Soyos and grab that 26" SIPS ... the Double-sight? Might be better for more accurate photo editing (As that's what I'll be doing for a while)

nah it was 250 at the store in november 07. the first one had a dead green pixel and some clouding. the one i exchanged it for was perfect. they let me test the new one in store :D

262 was with tax btw ;)

Keep it. Those screens are going away for good, it seems, and the Sips's are ridiculously expensive. All there is now in any store is TN's.

You waited in line on Black Friday? Good for you. I was not in the market for these until last week.

Well the SIPS 26" is only $700, that's why it's appealing... (compared to other SIPS)

But you're right, now that I think about it, I think I should keep atleast 1 of these, I paid $600 for both of them...

hahaha nah. well okay all of 5 minutes ;). the lines were very short and no one was scrambling. everyone seemed half asleep

all in all a great deal :)

I bought mine last year on BF at 6:00pm. No line at all, it was nice and I was shocked they even still had them.

There are still OfficeMax stores with the 6ms. I called all the stores near me and found one with two 6ms in stock and picked up one each with a friend. The manf. date is Nov. 2007.

I'm having trouble matching this new one with my old one from Sept/Oct. though. Is there a tutorial for doing this?

Nope, my Sept is a little bit different from my Dec, I definitely like the look of the later one, but unless you span the same image/colors across both screens and look close, you can't tell.

I mean it's really really small differences...

I just picked up one of these from OfficeMax. It's definitely an 8-bit panel (6 ms response time) and I couldn't be happier with the price I paid. :D

Does anyone else notice a slight screen door effect in the lower left corner of the (MVA) panel? It seems to show up only on some colors (such as light gray/white). I remember seeing something similar on my LG L246WP (it uses the same panel) now that I think about it.

I guess I'm just overly sensitive to pixel spacing variances. Oh well, keeping it. :) It'll hold me over until OLED is affordable.

BTW, here's a picture that shows the horizontal lines (most notably on the left side of the image). Does nobody else notice this at all in the lower left corner on light colors?
