Im in the market for a new keyboard, I browsed around xoxide and newegg and I fell in love with the logitech G15. the price isnt bad and I love just about everything about it, seems to have a decent following too. however I see that they just updated it to a newer (orange) model which ruined it for me [I dont like the fixed LCD, the lack of Volume knob, the orange color v blue, and most importantly the shrinking of the hotkeys!]

I've looked everywhere for the old style, I keep getting outbid on ebay (damn snipers), nothing on craigslist or froogle, I did find one on amazon but its not worth $150 to me

anyone know of any stores still shipping / hoarding the old style? I dont mind used, I dont care if It costs more (under $100) but I really want the old style

you might check ebay

i was looking around for one a while ago, ended up going for the new one because i couldnt find anywhere that had the old one in stock. When i saw my mates and mine side by side i decided i liked the new one alot more anyway! but thats just me

Ah, I've tried one very similar to the newer model and its ok at best IMHO

I bought the logitech mx5000 desktop set a year back, it had the mx1000 mouse I wanted and a keyboard with a very similar design to the new G15. I wish they included the touch sensitive area's on more of their keyboards!

well I guess I'll keep my sights on ebay

I think at this point your best bet to buy an old version is to buy it used. I have the new version and I really like it, I think it looks much sleeker than the version 1. I was most concerned about the lack of the hot key buttons but having it since release I still have yet to actually tie any macros or hot keys to them.

I jumped on the old version right as the price dropped when it was discontinued. I use the macro keys all the time. I have hotkeys for most of my commonly used programs, calculator, my docs, my computer, anything I commonly bring up. I really haven't used it for any of the game plug-ins though as they seem pretty worthless. I also don't use the system status one, as I prefer just leaving up the nvidia monitor on my second monitor while playing games.

You can always find some random uses for the second and third settings:
Item slot hot keys in dota (numpad 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8)
Often-used commands in ListChecker "/hostbnetpublic yaddayadda" etc...
Automate gambling in fallout 1 for unlimited money

You can also set them to be toggled or have various other effects in the settings.

Looks like SVC is still shipping the old version, and it's currently in stock.

The Overstock one might be a refurb. It doesn't specifically say so.
Warranty shows as 30 days distributer.
The SVC one looks legit though. :D

I've placed quite a few orders through SVC and have always been happy with their products/service.

Less than two weeks since this thread started, and all the linked deals are dead now. Does anyone know where this can still be purchased for a reasonable price (ie. not the $125.00 Amazon shows). I searched the net for a couple hours last night and turned up nothing.

Check out the Ideazon Merc Stealth Keyboard on amazon. 70 dollars shipped and its an amazing keyboard. I just bought one last week and I am loving it. So glad I picked it over the G15

my biggest beef with the new one (which I have) is no blue back lighting

I dont think its a new one I thought they just had two differnt versions

One is called the Ideazon Merc the other is called the ideazon merc stealth

Why did you get the one with no lighting anyway? lol still would be a great keyboard with or without it though.

I was refering to the G15 not the one you mentioned above

I was looking at the prices on Ebay and used ver. 1 G15 keyboards sell for a fair bit more than the brand new Ver. 2 of the G15. The G11 is about $40.00 shipped on Ebay for a respiffied, and it is the same keyboard layout as the old G15, only without the screen.

I don't know what I would need the LCD screen for since I don't currently use Ventillo or any team speak software, and while it would be nice to see my GPU temp on it, it isn't worth an extra $80.00.

Is there anything about the LCD screen that is so useful that it is worth the extra money?

I will check out the Merc Stealth, thanks for the heads up.

you know? I used to think the same thing before I had mine. and I got mine for free. once that keyboard died I was having a hard time dealing without. so now I have the Ver. 2

I read up a bit on the Merc Stealth; it looks to be awesome for hardcore gaming, but I am really a casual gamer, and I will be using this for video editing in Avid and other general keyboard use. Most of the reviews I read said that for standard typing the basic keyboard is on the small side, and there is also some issue with the Delete key being integrated into the num keys, making it practically unuseable. Sounds ideal for gaming but challenging for standard keyboard use.

I am still interested in opinions abou the level of indispensibility of the LCD screen. I can't think why I would use it, but maybe there are reasons I haven't thought of?

A lot of new games are coming out the support for the G15's LCD. The LCD will show Health, Stam, and Mana in AoC. All kinds of stats in WoW. Ammo, Armor, etc in FPS. I find it pretty handy to have and definately worth the extra amount over the G11. My only gripe with my G15 (v1) is that some of my keys have worn off. But since I don't look to type, it's not that big of an issue.

I used to own the G11 before my G15 and I also thought that I wouldn't really use the LCD but I proved myself wrong. I normally just keep my customized Everest information on it and love it.

Well, the LCD does sound handy, and ya, the used ver. 1 G15, are going for over a hundred dollars plus shipping on ebay. I went ahead and bought a G11 refurb'd for $30.00 shipped off ebay (1/4th the price). I can see whether I use the extra G keys or not, if so, I will take my time and watch for a good deal on a ver 1 G15 on Craigs list or something, if I don't use them I will buy a new ver. 2 G15, for 2/3rds the price of a used ver. 1.

About the keys rubbing off on the old G15's, lots of people have reported that. It kinda takes a little away from their appeal, but I guess if your a person who wants the extra G keys and the screen, you don't really have a choice.

from what I've read logi is good about taking care of you if your keys wear out. so my advice would be just to hit them up if you start to experiance that.

This is a known issue with the earlier G15s. The later Version 1 G15s don't have this problem. I have had a G15 for a very long time and have never seen any indications of wear. I recently purchased a used one as the LCD display on mine is no longer working. got pissed one night and slammed my fist on the keyboard breaking off the LCD, but everything else is just fine, its kinda like a G11 actually. These keyboards are very durable and I for one dont look to use anything else for a long time, I am thinking about getting a couple more for back up as I know there getting hard to come by.

I been playing Age of Conan for the last couple weeks and I found a UI mod made just for the ver.1 G15s, I really like the mod but it was a bit of a pain to get it working correctly, but I bet as the game matures that UI mods will become alot better and easier to set up.
