So, I was watching some movies on my macbook pro and was thinking wouldnt it be sweet ti have blu-ray in this thing? So i decided to post my question onto hardforums.

So theres a couple non slow loading blu-ray drives for sale on the net but for ridiculuous prices of 800 dollars so i was thinking, would it be possible to take the blu-ray drive from the ps3 and put it in the macbook pro? This would be 50% cheaper as its 399 at best buy.

Thanks.

Eh, if it was a Mac Pro, then I would say you could look into just hooking the PS3 to whatever monitor you are using on another port, of it it doesn't offer multiple connections checking out a KVM. On a MBP however? eh... I am not even sure how you would go about hooking that up. I have never gutted a PS3. I think some people have had computer-use luck with the 360s HD-DVD drive, but that was different as it was external USB.

I think the PS3 BluRay drive is a standard 5 1/4" drive. That won't fit into a MB Pro. I'm sure Apple will provide support for BluRay in the next 6 months, since it's the defacto next-gen HD video standard.

The is no HDCP implementation in the macbook (either in the display, graphics card or OS). Ripped content is another matter though.

correct, even if you got the drive working... you still couldn't play movies.
