MGS 4 Has Several 90 Minute Cutscenes

That's just crazy.

I can just imagine the laugably bloated, bombastic translated dialog and poor voice acting right now. Poor PS3. This is your savior?

nothing new ^^ I remember missing several classes in school because of the codec conversations and cut scenes in MGS2. I didn't want to skip them because they might be important for the story. However, it would be Metal Gear Without them, MGS3 didn't have the same feel. I've always played MGS for the crazy and interesting story not the gameplay.

Square Enix did a fantastic job making stories and cutscenes and even CGI movies based on their Final Fantasy games, especially with Spirits Within and Advent Children. If they can pull off the same thing with Metal Gear, it just might be cool.

Just make it skippable!

i fixed that quote for you for accuracy. This thread isn't about abortions. :p

i kid, i had chide a little bit. Ironically spirits within did some major financial damage to square. I think what hurt it was they called it final fantasy. They should have dropped the name association and sold it on its own merits.

Can't exactly say the industry is bustling with innovation at the moment. A movie/game hybrid is a welcome experiment. I'd try it if I had a PS3.

If you're a old school gamer the 1st movie/game hybrid in my opnion is Wing Commander 3. Of course the cut scenes featured real actors like Mark Hamil, Malcolm McDowell, John-Rhys Davies and a host of other lesser known actors instead of CGI. The cutscenes were a little grainy and not always the best acting in the world but damn back in 1994 that was jaw dropping.

I love that C&C3 had live acting. Michael Ironside (Sam Fischer / Jester ) and Jennifer Morrison (the girl from House).

I missed all the WC games, got very little exposure from WC: Prophecy demo which I though was amazing. Too bad I played it like 5 or 6 years too late. :p

Like action cut scenes remind me of Red Alert. Game was so awesome.. but acting just cracked me up. :D

Lets wait and see, I think people may actually like interactive movies. I have always wanted a choice of what the characters would do, especially in horror movies. Run away.... run away... run away!!

Texas Chainsaw Mascre - beginnings was a perfect example of people too stupid to know when to run like the wind.

I read today from a reviewer who played through the game twice that the cutscenes are nowhere near 90 minutes long and that the cutscenes can be skipped.

And we read the same thing from the three links in this thread, but hey, thanks for the unnecessary heads up.

Who clicks on links here, or even reads the story referenced in the first post? :p

i agree... and they had some really big name voice actors on it....

i thought it was a decent movie and i never got into FF

If any of you guys played MGS snake eater, this would not be a surprise to you.

When I played snake eater, there were some long cut scene's. Just about the longest cut scene's I have ever seen.
It was great. Got me really into the story and into snake's character.
Personally I can't wait to see what this game has to deliver.

Shoot. In the dialogue between snake and another person in MGS snake eater, he commented on a "Interactive Movie" and stated that the user would be able to control the outcome of the character and all that noise.

I think this will be the best of the series.
I hope

long cut scenes can work for or against you...it depends on the quality of the game...not the length of the cut scene.

(although cutscenes that are so long you forgot what the hell you were doing kinda suck...)

lol to funny QFMFT!

So many people get caught out in these threads with not having read the original story linked to the thread.

Actually you seem to have confused quantity with quality. Most two hour plus films these days barely have 90 minutes of actual story. Its always better to cut the fat then to server up a plate of meat and gristle.

Which is what a 90 minute cut scene is in a game. But in this case it is long winded devs that think their ideas prophesy. It also shows a lack of good game design. You should be able to introduce these story bits in ways that don't necessarily involve a monologue. Something sadly, the MSG story folks don't get hence the reason why these games have long since start to SUCK.:D
I actually like a lot of fat with my meat. It gives it more flavor and makes it less dry.

Man, when I was watching the new Alone in the Dark previews on gametrailers, I was thinking that it looked like you're just being guided around by the game instead of actually playing it. I agree with others that when I buy a game, I want to play it, not sit back and watch and then have the game tell me to press X every 5 minutes. MGS4 sounds like it's going to be worse in those terms. I know some enjoy this style of game, but it's just not for me.

im not sure why anyones surprised by this. MGS2 had a two hour movie with a brief boss fight in the middle of the movie for its ending. with this supposedly being the end of the MGS series and kojima going all out on it, this doesnt seem out of line at all.
No there wasn't.

I predicted that this oft-delayed, overhyped game would suck big fat donkeyballs, and this news of 90-minute cutscenes only makes me more confident in my prediction. If Kojima wants to make CG movies, why doesn't he go make them and release them in theaters and on DVD. My guess is because then he would be competing with real film-makers like Disney-Pixar and Lucasfilm, and he couldn't charge $60 for his movie.

i say... it had better be worth watching to make me sit there for 90minutes....

just thinking how much of the games ticket-price went to developing what probably is a lame animation sequence....

Creating a 90 minute cut scene is also much easier to make into a grand and fantastic looking experience versus actually working out an innovative game engine.

Think about what goes into a major motion picture film, the budgets they operate with to entertain you for 90 minutes, versus konami dinkering around with cg for over an hour all done with voice actors.

I can't stand cut scenes over 5 minutes, and I can't stand stories that are purposefully confusing in hopes of spewing enough bullshit to viewers to make them believe they are enjoying themselves.

Did you guys read the thread?

It's not true.
