Big 3dMark06 disparity

My main system is in my sig and I ran a 3dMark06 when I first built it and got a 12,200 at stock CPU, slightly OCed GPU.

I'm building a system for a friend that has the following:

AMD X2 5400+
4GB PC6400 RAM
512MB 8800GT 700/2000
Gigabye 570 SLI mobo

After getting the OS and some programs installed I decided to run a 3dMark06 on this system and it only scores 9,800. Could the CPU cause that 2,400 point gap? I doubt the 5400+ is a bottleneck in some way. Here's how the scores compare.

My system:
SM 2.0 5765
SM 3.0 5563
CPU 2742

His system:
SM 2.0 4463
SM 3.0 4998
CPU 2019

If you can take that 5400+ to 3.2ghz it will score 2400 in the CPU section so it may give you a better comparison. That said, if you can't notice the difference in a real game it doesn't matter.:)

depends on your gaming resolution

It was 1280x1024. Ran on the same monitor on both tests.

From what I can tell, it seems that's an average score for that CPU and GPU. I overclocked the CPU to 3GHz and stress testing now. If it passes 8 hours of that I'll probably leave it there and call it good.

you think thats bad my system in my sig only scored 6500 simply cause of my crappy cpu

In my testing Its nowhere near as cpu dependent as 06 is. 06 really is worthless when it comes to real game performance.

But the difference between pci-e 8x and pci-e 16x is minimum.
The processor makes a huge bottleneck before 3ghz.
