I'm finally updating my computer (after 4 years!) and could use some advice. I have $450 in Best Buy gift cards to use towards my video card. I was looking at the 9800gtx, but am unclear if this is my best choice out of what is available on their website.

I would consider SLI, but I don't game at very high resolutions (1600x1200 max). My current card is a 6800GT so pretty much anything will be an improvement. I'd like to get the most performance for the money if possible, but I can only use the giftcards.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd grab an 8800GT or GTS 512mb, and then you might have a little left over for another gig of RAM or a new mouse or something...

Since you're limiting yourself to BestBuy only, your choice has to be the BFG 9800 GTX OC for $350: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...I?skuId=8800372&type=product&id=1205538349548

I can't stress enough how much of a better deal you'd get elsewhere though
But if the op uses the BB gift cards to get a card, I think that 9800GTX is an excellent choice. Also, BFG has a Step-Up program so that card could be upgraded within the 90 days to something a little faster *cough* GTX260 *cough*:D

Believe me, I know that I can find a much better deal somewhere else. However, I'm using giftcards that I got as a reward for accumulating debit card points. Essentially, the video card is free. The money that my wife is graciously allowing me to spend is going towards a new CPU, power supply, RAM, and mobo.

I'm essentially getting an all new rig for 4-500 bucks. Can't complain about that.

Well, if you don't want to buy @ BB, but all you got is BB gift cards ... try this article out for size... MSN Money has an excellent article titled, "Trade in those unwanted gift cards". It talks about selling or trading your gift cards online at sites like Cardavenue, Plastic Jungle and Swapagift.com, etc... even suggests selling your gift cards @ ebay :D

I'd highly suggest taknig a look, I've heard nothing but good things about the 3 sites listed above and in the article!

To keep this post on topic though :: IMHO, I'd suggest you buy an eVGA 9800 GTX (IF they supply em @ BestBuy) and step-up in about 1month to the Nvidia GTX 260 or GTX 280, you'll be happy you did! ;)

Also I hear XFX's warranty program is really good, so ya might wanna go with them, if you get an Nvidia 9800 GPU... I am not 100% sure if BestBuy stocks those brands, but if they don't, refer back to the first part of my post, and wa`la, the first part of my post becomes relevant :D

best Buy has been selling 8800GT's for $200 on and off for several weeks, you could SLI two of those, though the single 9800gtx would probably be better...?
