What size LCD are you using?

I'm about to get a new TV/monitor to replace the 24" dell that I have now. I was pretty set on 32" for a size, and prob the Sony Bravia xbr6 as it's 1080p, 120Hz, etc. However I found a 37" of same tv for a good deal, and I'm wondering if it's just too big to sit in front of. I use it for a tv also so I want to get a nice size, but not so big I can't sit in front of it at my desk. I went to a Best Buy to look at some screens, but it was kind of hard to tell what it would be like to actually use them, there's so many screens, and big screens, so I think your perception gets distorted.

I thought 32" would be the perfect size for my needs, but I was wondering if anyone uses a 37" or larger screen in a similar situation, where part of the time you're sitting up close to the screen, gaming or whatever?

Thanks!

I've got a 37" 1080p Westy that I sit approx. 3-4 feet away from, never have any problems. If my desk was a little wider I'd probably move it 6-12 inches back, but I've never had any eye strain or any other problems at this distance. :)

37" + 1080p = pretty damn near perfect :)

I'm using a Dell 2407 and am looking to upgrade to a 30" or 32". I'm struggling between the insanely awesome resolution of a 30" LCD and the PC/TV versatility of a 32" like the XBR6 or A650.

40 inch. Sit about 4.5 feet back. Had to lower the set to be nearly touching the desktop to give my neck a break.

Now, the 40 inch works pretty well...

Also originallly figured 32" was probably the perfect size, but found more choice in models at the 40" size. Maybe 37" would be perfect...

For my desktop 20" Widescreen but im about to pull the trigger on a BenQ 24". MY HTPC is connected to a 30" HDTV its only 720p and its about 5-6 ft away and when reading on it i do get eyestrain. It might not be as bad if it had 1080p.

2 19" BenQs, 1 24" Dell for one machine; 20" Dell and 1 19" Dell for the 'work' machine

2 x 19" - They are Dell 1907s. Very happy with them, buts its time to go up to 2x24's. And just like 96% of the other people on here... I still don't know which 24s I am going with yet. ;)

24" on the main rig. 19" on the HTPC, 17" on the laptop.

Wouldn't a poll have been better?

32" Toshiba 32rv530 and i love it. I made the same upgrade 24" - 32"

24" on the main rig. 19" on the HTPC, 17" on the laptop.

Wouldn't a poll have been better?
Not unless you could set up a poll with a dozen + choices and allow the voters to enter a number for each instead of doing multiple guess.

currently using a 24" and looking at the same upgrade

just note that the 32" xbr6 does NOT have 120hz

Well before today I had a 17" dell craptastic edition and an 8 year old 17" HP crt...
now the dell sits secondary to my 24" soyo

I have two main screens:

1 x NEC LCD2690WuXi-BK - Main rig and PS3 over DVI/HDMI to DVI
1 x BenQ G2400W - VMWare server, Xbox 360 over HDMI and sometimes HD cable box

I used to use an LG 37LB5D as a monitor. Sat about 3.5 feet away and it was perfect. No eyestrain at 1080p resolution. I moved it to my upstairs family room for regular TV duties and HTPC duties, but it was very good, other than a bit of input lag. I had it on an extra shelf I built for my desk to lower it about four inches to avoid having to look up too much.

A lot of the newer 32" and 37" 1080p sets have a game mode which removes image processing in lieu of input speed. I would think a 32" is perfect, with a 37" being good if you have the extra desk depth and space. I would advise that you review any prospective set's user manuals prior to checking them out to ensure they have a "game mode". This generally takes input lag down to 1 or 2 frames which is excellent for an LCD HDTV.

The new Samsung 650 series look pretty good, as do some of the Sonys. They basically use equivalent panels.

I have a 24" Samsung 245bw, planning on getting an HDTV in the 40-47" range to use for movies and gaming. I may end up selling the Samsung to defray the cost if text isn't too hard on the eyes on the big screen. Otherwise, I think I'll put the 24" in portrait mode at an angle to the side.

19" NEC + 19" Viewsonic widescreen on my main machine. I like 19" monitors becuase my video cards last longer :p

Thank god i'm not the only one using 19" here. 37" is pretty much double my screen size. I thought 19 was decent until now.

I called Sony and they told me that it did?

Sony lied to you. I have this TV as my monitor and it is not 120hz, but you'll have a hard time believing that it's not. You would love this thing as your monitor. Great TV too.

32" Sony Bravia for XBox 360 and TV. 25.5" DoubleSight LCD for PC gaming and general use. 20" Dell 2001FP for Misc PC stuff like web surfing while gaming.

thx gdiman, I wonder why they would do that, that's like false advertising. kinda makes me want to not buy it on principal, but if it's a sweet screen, then i guess whatever.... do you game on it?
