How is the ECS brand?

Also have a mobo from them that has been very realiable. Its no the most fancy board but it definately gets the job done and takes a lot of heat.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about ECS-branded nvidia cards since this is the nvidia subforum...

As for the question, I have no clue, never owned an ECS product :D

ECS cards = 95% of all others, including favorites EVGA, XFX and others. The bottom line comes down to prices, warranty/support, and bundles. If you don't care about having an easily accessible and lifetime warranty, then by all means go for it.. There's some pretty sweet AR prices on some ECS goods, ie: the Accelero S1 equppied 8800GT... Personally, I'd rather pay a few extra bucks for the service that the likes of EVGA gets you.

ECS motherboards back in the Athlon XP days were TERRIBLE!!

I'm certainly glad to hear they've gotten better in the last couple of years.

ECS sold crap forever, but over the years, its been decent. Its a cheap alternative and normally just good reference pcbs, be it mobo or video.

"Better" is most certainly a relative term, though... I still wouldn't get them for anything even sort of important.

Yeah, I used to avoid them like the plague back in the day. I have an ECS board in my rig now (Athlon 64 X2, 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300, eVGA 8800GT Superclocked) and it's been doing great for about 6 months now. From what I've seen so far they have gotten better over the years.

ECS is a low cost manufacture much like bioteq, or PCCHIPS, however they have been doing some stuff as of late that's been somewhat nice, but still a budget manufacture.

i.e. the card might not run as fast or have some slower memory/parts then other lead manufactures, but it will do nice for the price.

I stopped buying ECS after my motherboard for the amd xp 1700+ blew like 6 caps :(

ECS is fine to use now, but their video card warranty lacks what the other major nvidia partners has...

Thanks for all the opinions guys. I ordered the ECS 8800 GTS so we shall see how it runs. Can still exchange it at newegg but for $160 thats cheap enough for at least a year.

u should be fine, my bro has that card, I was thinking of getting it too, but it was just to expensive to leave it sit here for a year then try to upgrade in 2010

their site is lacking in support and no forum.May want to scout around a little bit

I would avoid that company at all cost. Try talking to customer support and you will know what I mean. Website was no help at all and in the end, I tossed out a $50.00 motherboard because of it. If anythting go with either Foxconn or MSI for decent low priced board.

ECS RMAs aren't very unusual. http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Support/rmamb.aspx?MenuID=25&LanID=9

You troubleshoot with a tech, who will give you a RMA # if it's defective. That may not be as "nice" as Asus that charges $35 + shipping both ways for in or out of warranty service if the place you purchased from has a short return period (30 days, which even newegg does on some Asus models). Fry's will directly replace ECS motherboards for a year. Newegg has a 30 day return/exchange policy on some motherboard models and 1 year policy on others.

But getting back to the topic of the thread, newegg has a "standard return policy" on all but one ECS video card. The 8800GT mentioned has the 1 year replacement through newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ption=ecs&name=Desktop+Graphics+/+Video+Cards The quality is the same as most other brands. The difference is in the warranty and support. ECS video cards have a 36 month warranty, which is about average. It seems like a very good value for the usually low prices when the cards are on sale.

Yeah I dropped the money for it. Could care less about warranty since newegg has a 1yr on it. After a year the card is worthless anyway so no biggie. :D
